Re: Text Messages

I wonder how a high school student can amass 4000-5000 texts a month and still fail typing class.

Any streaming services are the likely culprit. Music streaming is the most likely as it just keeps going. Youtube and other video sites use more bandwidth but people don't usually use them as much.

Just remember that Spotify will burn through 1 gig in 15 hours at MEDIUM bandwidth setting(you can control bandwidth in the app, I think). A movie can be more than 1 gig per hour.

Facebook is a hog too with all the pictures and, now, automatically playing videos. I've noticed college age kids aren't using FB as much now that their moms are all on it.

As far as the subscription goes, you've got almost $2k in phones there but you might still save some cash if you were buying them outright and getting a prepaid service. They're not all equal though, some have data priority for plan members and stuff like that. If you were saving $150 a month on the plans then you could certainly upgrade phones pretty regularly.

Personally, my kids will be getting a fairly crappy version of all technology. I don't want their first years on their own to be a let down....at least that's my story.

Those classes normally require good spelling.

I think the worst texting bill I've heard was something around 3000$ just in text messages.

Then there's me with my three messages a month.

Re: Text Messages

We pay 350 a month. 5 phones all smartphones. My wife, kid and I have TOTL phones 'cause I'm a phone geek and it makes sense. They are useful for much longer, even though I trade up every year or so. My wife and kid use theirs for much longer, so the investment is worth it.

I have a feeling that eventually all the providers will have to go unlimited again. It makes no sense to have super fast phones and systems and then tell you that you only get 10 gigs. I can burn that up in one night of ****, uh, I mean Spotify.

We don't use all our data these days since we don't have service at the house. This means I can stream all day long at work. Usually talk radio on the TalkStreamLive app., or Spotify.

Re: Text Messages

I pay 290 a month for unlimited calls and texts plus 7.5k data a month per line. That 290 includes my home Internet and cable service.

No clue on the texts. I call when its important. Text if I can wait on a response. I text directions to job sites and such though.

Spotify has the ability to eat up a gig a day.

Texts don't use data, typically picture messaging MMS is pay per use, not data.

Using iMessage on an iPhone will use data.

As will What's App, Kik, Hangouts or anything that isn't an SMS.

Re: Text Messages

Can I borrow an oar. I'm in the same boat as most with kids. Mine is 14 years old and has to pay for her data plan ($40) a month. And she just forked out $60 to upgrade to iPhone 6+. We have unlimited texting. I don't even know how many texts she sends.

$3000? OH MY! When I was a kid I got my butt beat over making a long distance call that cost my parents $8 and some change. I'd hate to think what they'd do to me over a $3000 bill.

Right, but not everyone knows that.

Well in this particular case they weren't responsible for the charges, they were supposed to have unlimited text messaging but someone made a mistake.

Though there are people out there who are responsible for bills this high because they weren't willing to add another 20$ to their plan.
