Is quite comical to watch resisters come to China's defense.

Let's see who blinks first.

Last time this conversation was had, the market was at 24k.

I don't see many defending China... more like just opposing Trump in spite of our best interests and looking for angles to criticize it because it's him (even though there's been no rational reason posted that I've seen NOT to do what he's doing, and has not only been advocated for decades, but even Pelosi and Schumer have voiced support) ...

Who do you think benefits from a pushback against tariffs? The Chi-coms.

China always says "yes, yes, yes", then dies what they want. It's a lot easier for them to take market that way than it is to get it back.

There's going to come a line where the amount they're losing to tarrif's doesn't make sense anymore... but they exposed their negotiating technique ... they had agreed to 95% of what was negotiated already (meaning what both sides were negotiating), then pulled it ALL, and now say we should "meet them half-way" which would be a win for them...

Only challenge is, that only works when it's not costing you money in actual tarrif's...

It seems like the majority of our local purchases still involve chinese manufacturing. When will that take a hit?

Do you mean inside this thread or those outside in the MSM? Unless you have a specific example I don't really see it in the thread...

Which is why we can't do business with them anymore. They can't be trusted and one of the few things you need in a business relationship is trust.

Isn't the real question are there alternatives you can purchase that aren't Chinese related? I'm not aware of products that are critical to have that are manufactured by China...

I don't have a problem with a global market IF we're all competing on the same level...

Agreed. But price points and availability are a major factor for most folks. Until that's sorted out, we're going to continue to buy their stuff because that's what's available and affordable from the suppliers.

I'll buy American when I can, and do read labels, but it's already to the point where "Made in America" is kind of rare.

Side note: when the quality of an American product has dropped, that really pisses me off. Just happened with something I bought. I was like wth?

Did you notice how the home centers keep making knock-off's off good American brands, and use their private label? Mostly junk. And yet many jobs call for some of this cheap stuff to meet a customer's price point.

Re: Tariffs And Trade Battle - Thoughts?

People use to save up to buy things they wanted. Now with cheap Chinese crap they can afford it each and every time it breaks. Also, having it at a cheap price means more people will buy things they don't need but want, destroying there ability to save. Because there is always another cool toy that comes out that not expensive enough to encourage someone to pass on it.

They're just delaying because they are immune from internal political pressure and we are not.
Same old strategy.

Re: Tariffs And Trade Battle - Thoughts?

Let me preface this by stating that China has a lot of good people in it, those people should be helped as much as possible to help bring about much needed change in that country.

China has no animal abuse laws. In China millions of dogs are not only slaughtered but tortured to death in the most horrific manners imaginable in the belief that the adrenaline surge as they are boiled, burnt, nail gunned, bones broken, etc. makes the meat sweeter. If you doubt that google 'Yulin dog meat festival'. The Duo Duo project, along with other organizations are trying to reform this vile practice and other organizations are trying to have China institute animal protection laws. It's said you can judge a country how they will treat people by how they treat their animals, doesn't bode well for the world seeing how China treats its animals.

China backs Iran, is supporting Venezula, persecutes Christians with the Chinese government many times censoring what pastors can say, changing their sermons, destroying their churches and imprisoning worshipers.

China harvests organs of other groups of people it doesn't like, The Falun Gong is an organization dedicated to peace and understanding and they have suffered terribly at the hands of the Chinese government.

If you decide that you don't want to support China, want to get products from somewhere else, good luck. Our government, allied with big business, has totally invested in de-industrializing the United States and having China do the work that so much of the heartland of our great nation did before. Next time you're in Costco, or Target, or Walmart take some time and see how much of what you buy comes from China. This is becoming more and more prevalent in our industry of construction.

China has factory ships stationed 200 miles offshore where they take raw lumber and turn it into wood products that they ship back here. Think they are obeying any environmental laws out in international waters?

China's military leaders have said they could lose more people than the entire population of the United States and still have over a billion people, there are more Chinese who speak English than Americans.

Look at the chart below, the music sucks but the chart doesn't. Anyone who looks at that and isn't concerned doesn't have a brain.

It's long overdue we take control of our future, bring back manufacturing to the United States and our allies, make them play by the same rules all of us have to play by while we have the opportunity to do so.

All of which is why Trump is doing the right thing.
