Sometimes Your Ex Is Right

I got divorced several months ago. I agreed to pay my wife $600.00 a month for four years ($28,800.00) in alimony. No altruism, this was purely a business decision; I may have had my ass handed to me if the alimony was court ordered.

I offered my wife a $17,000.00 cash option which she declined . It's like the lottery. When you win 100 million, you only get 50 million if you take it up front. I advised her that taking the money up front lowered her risk, compensates for the time value of money, and decreases opportunity costs.

Never a stay-at-home mom, my ex was previously a six-figure-a-year executive who was working a lower paying job well below her skill and pay level. Low and behold, she got a new six-figure job. State law allows alimony adjustments for changes in income. I knew I could easily set $5,000.00 on fire in legal fees challenging, so I offered her the 5 large if she capitulated. She did, wisely this time.

So between the $3,600.00 I've paid her (never late), the $5,000.00 settlement, and my legal fees, I've paid just less than 1/3 of the 29K I agreed to just six month ago. I am very happy today. I love her and wish her all the best.

Yeah but now you're payin her to ride somebody else. That's the part that wouldn't sit right with me.

Suppose this is why people "visit" their ex. Might as well get a little somethin somethin...after all you are paying for it.

That sounds like a nice story. Best wishes for both of you, and glad you're moving on while you're still "young".

Dang Kowboy, you're losing your touch. You left out the part where you boinked the legal secretary.

The best decision I ever made was not having kids with my starter wife. Dodged a bullet.

If you would have had the hots for your ex wife you could have avoided all of this.

Cost me $80,000 plus another $20,000 in cash, some apartments, a house, and all of the belongings, in our house. I had a couch, with a hole in it, and an old tv.

Well worth it.

I dunno.

I kind of thought after reading this, it was his best work to date.

Back when we were still friends on Facethingie, she posted a picture of her new boyfriend's cat. I commented that I'd bet he could make that pussy purr.

I found it hilarious and still do. She defriended me immediately.

No offense intended toward you but that's ****ing disgusting. How you could think of this woman you love(d) as a piece of meat is mind boggling to me.

Maybe I'm just not in touch with how things go but if my wife thought so little of me she could be cool with me shagging another woman, I dont think I could speak to her anymore either.

You need to get your **** straight bro. I think you may have lost out on this deal, and not monetarily. Freedom isnt being able to bang random chicks when your 60, that's called late life crisis, cause they're all wrinkled at that point...

To each his own I guess.

Deckhead:

The price you pay for your freedom and the ability to bang new chicks is that your ex gets to do the same. The sooner you get used to this idea the better. As Tina Turner says, "What's love got to do with it?"
