Said My Goodbyes Tonight

Born in Randolf Kansas on Christmas day 1999, we called her Holly...

Pure breed 3rd generation Pembroke Welsh Corgi with 8 champions in the family, we loved her dearly.

The queen of England loves this breed and it's no wonder why...very smart, quite compact, yet stout, a hard worker and most of all, probably one of the most loyal breeds out there. You can look these dogs in the eye and literally figure out what there thinking.

Anyway, with a life span averaging 10 to 12 years and Holly being 13+, we knew we were on borrowed time...She developed a fatty tumor (benign) last year on her chest which she dealt with pretty good but over the last 6 months or so the rear legs and her back started giving her problems.

Just recently over the last 6 weeks or so she started feeling more discomfort and the vet found an additional lump on her rear leg in addition to deteriorating spinal conditions. Over the last 3 days she started pulling away from us and acting strangely indeed. Almost like she was having mini strokes which was really affecting eating and mobility. Needless to say her time was up and we weren't gone to let her struggle anymore.

As we all know, these times are painful events for everyone involved and a lot of tears are flowing right now...

I feel privileged to have been her companion over the years and as painful as it was to see her go, the wife and I held her and wouldn't leave the room until the vet confirmed her passing.

I'm also very grateful of our wonderful vet who made the process a bit more comforting and ensured a peaceful passing - it really was painless for "my girl" and really meant the world to us.

Still can't believe she's not sitting at my feet as I write this

Here's some happier moments...

Re: Said My Goodbyes Tonight

We recently lost our cat buddy of 16 years. It is amazing how much space they take up in our hearts.

She sure was a cute pup. I am sure she left you with lots of memories that will eventually make you smile.

So sorry bud. That is one happy looking dog in the photos. It's tough to get through which is one reason I am so hesitant on getting another dog.

You will get through it though. Give it some time, but keep a memento.

Re: Said My Goodbyes Tonight

Truly sorry for your loss.

We went through it with our "Jazz" a few years ago. She was a member of the family.

My wife & I agonized over things for several months as she progressed worse. Finally realized we were being selfish because WE couldn't bring ourselves to accept things.

Had to be one of the hardest things we've ever done! But in the end, glad she wasn't suffering anymore.

Hang on to those pics and great memories!

Sometimes, I try to imagine having to make that decision. So far, I have been spared.
I feel for the ones not so fortunate.
