i actually like the jackass movies, it's pure dionysian catharsis for me, but those guys are morons. that said, they're also the guys who were first out of the caves climbing up trees to look for new food or fighting bears to test the limits of humanity or pushing the boundaries in other ways. so, in that sense, they (and their kind) have served a good purpose throughout humanity's history.
as for dunn specifically, it sounds like he got what was coming to him and i'm surprised it didn't happen to steve-o or bam (who owns a lamborghini) a long time ago.

Im pretty sure Steve-o is sober now. I could be wrong, but that's what someone told me.

that's what i heard, too, and it showed in the 3d movie as he was much less brazen than he had been in the past. he was in a bad way for several years, so it was good to see him actually caring about life a little. some guys grow and mature and others don't.

Re: Ryan Dunn From "Jackass" Movies, Dies....

The accident scene is not too far from my home and I heard it was a mess - cop stated it was the worst fatality accident he's ever seen.

Around these parts you can run into these guys at the wawa or big box stores. They don't act like the celebrity type.

Let's face it - were all jackasses at one time or another, it's just these guys filmed it and ended up making a decent living out of it.

The fact of the matter is speed kills and drunk driving kills and mixed together, it just becomes more spectacular.

In the end, maybe some good can come from this and help people make the right decisions to better their lives.

My deepest condolences to family and friends.

Recently watched the 3rd movie as well. I laughed so hard at the point here he said "Why do I have to be Steve-O?"

Not sure if it's curiosity or paying respects but every time I have passed the accident scene in the last few days there were 8-10 people there. Today was the funeral for the passenger and the cops had one lane closed for people to walk up.

Condolences to both of their friends and family.

Bill

Read The Birth of Tragedy by Nietzsche.

You can find it HERE. It's not long... maybe two to three hours.

(Kind of means: "If it's fun and feels good, have another drink and do it, logic and responsible reasoning be damned.)

Re: Ryan Dunn From "Jackass" Movies, Dies....

I couldn't let this rest.

If the car plus passengers = 3000 pounds, @ 130 mph the energy dissipated in this crash is 2.4 Megajoules. A stick of dynamite contains roughly 2.1 Megajoules of energy.

The time it takes to use up this energy has some effect but I don't know how long a stick of dynamite takes to explode. That's for another day.

If I made no errors the crash took 0.04 second and the people pulled 140 Gs. What a mess.

"When he began his research in 1947, the aerospace conventional wisdom was that a man would suffer fatally around 18 g. Stapp shattered this barrier in the process of his progressive work, experiencing more "peak" g-forces voluntarily than any other human. Stapp suffered repeated and various injuries including broken limbs, ribs, detached retina, and miscellaneous traumas which eventually resulted in lifelong lingering vision problems caused by permanently burst blood vessels in his eyes. In one of his final rocket-propelled rides, Stapp was subjected to 46.2 times the force of gravity"

In any case, I doubt anybody's brain works fast enough for these guys to even know what hit them, even if they were both sober.
I think the fastest reaction time for sober people is about 0.1 second.

Re: Ryan Dunn From "Jackass" Movies, Dies....

He was a moron, plain and simple. I'm so sick of driving on the roads to see idiots in BMWs, porsches, etc all weaving in and out of traffic going as fast as they can thinking they are the only ones on the road 130 mph is insane unless you are on a race track with a helmet on and a safe car.

This guy got everything that was coming to him, his friend was stupid for even getting in the car with him. They think they are invincible but they aren't. I hope this keeps some other kids from possibly doing what he did.

There is always someone getting killed because they chose to do something really stupid, I am just glad that he didn't kill an innocent person (not inside his car)

I actually don't feel sorry for this dude.
sounds like he's had a lot of accidents. fame doesn't create brains, and you can't fix stupid. these kids all got super rich off doing stupid things, I can't believe more of them aren't dead yet.

Speakinawhich, you are more likely to die in a car crash on your way to buy a lottery ticket than you are to win.
And people pay money to participate in this bad gamble.

Young people think they are immortal. The mortality tables tell me I am not - they even tell me when I am likely to die.
