Re: Robin Williams

This one I didn't see coming at all.

RIP but if you really knocked yourself off Mork, you left your family with quite a burden of why so Rest only somewhat in peace if this turns out to be the case.

I was a fan.

Re: Robin Williams

Suicide is really devastating for everyone involved.

Those that remain will probably always blame themselves, wishing they did more: "would've, could've, should've"

I agree. This one really took me by surprise.

For some strange reason, I remember where I was and what I was doing when the following passed away:
*John Wayne
*Elvis
*Michael Jackson
And I'm sure, today will stick with me as well.

In this case, I think the family probably understands in some way since they've been witnessing and helping him deal with it for years. It's likely not out of the blue for them. I hope everybody rests in peace.

I have a client who's son has issues and has "tried" and almost succeeded several times. I suppose that's a cry for help. That's a conversation I didn't want to get into, for sure. The mother actually is expecting bad news one day, though she is desperately trying to help him as she can. She actually lost her job (security clearance revoked) as she talked to him urgently via cell in an unauthorized zone.

Re: Robin Williams

Andy, the reason it's so hard to understand suicide is that no one in his right mind would do that. You don't want to walk in those shoes.

Robin lightened the load for me many, many times over the years, and for that I thank him.

Re: Robin Williams

This is the first I have heard of the tragedy. The first thing that came to mind for me was his movie, "worlds greatest dad", where his son commits suicide with affixation.

I remember seeing him at pike market in Seattle. He was coming out of starbucks as I walked in, he sat with his bicycle in the courtyard. He only got a few sips before people were walking by taking pictures. Someone called out nanu nanu. He left his coffee there and rode off on his bike. My point being, the attention could be very alienating. Fame might be extremely difficult if you suffer from depression.

I am inspired to watch one of his comedies tonight.
RIP

Never was really a fan of his standup routine....I thought he was a decent actor. Really hated to hear about it. RIP Robin.

Talk to her about it. It's not a dirty word. They need help.

Family helping him deal with it or not, it is out of the blue. No matter how hard you think you're preparing yourself for a day that might come, when it comes it's unimaginable.

My little sister left behind a family that is anything but a shell of what it was. No matter how F*&%ed up it was, we weren't these hollow shells of the people we once were. That day the family sat down and looked around at each other with looks that can't be explained. Guilt. Blame. .... It goes on. So does each day as the rest of us keep plugging along. One day I hope to ask, why?

Suicide is a very permanent solution to a temporary problem.

Yup, I/we know. It happens every day and has since the beginning of time. It's part of the reason Williams deserves a little remembrance as he had the ability to let you forget the day's news.

Correct, it's not a dirty work. She gave me tmi while I was working and has professional help. I offered some neighborly advice and wish her well, but I just don't have an extra shoulder to spare. I know that sounds callous, but she had already asked me out to dinner 3 times and I wasn't getting tied up in any of it. The last time I let it get too friendly/personal with a client (conversationally), I ended up eventually writing a "cease and desist". I was getting texts and calls at all hours. And another time I got called by a JAG officer inquiring about my "relationship" with the man's wife prior to a divorce. No kidding. No thanks. That's what friends, family and professionals are for. Not contractors.

I know he had an extensive career with many great films, Ms. Doubtfire is still one of my favorites.

Huge talent, very funny guy...what a shame, I guess when the mind goes, everything goes with it no matter who you're.
Will definitely enjoy some re-runs.

Re: Robin Williams

As good of a stand up comedian as he was, I always thought he was an outstanding dramatic actor. He seemed to have a particular affinity for characters who were barely holding it together.

Some favorites: Moscow on the Hudson, Good Morning Vietnam, Fisher King, Awakenings, Good Will Hunting. He played seriously creepy villains in Sleepless and One Hour Photo. RIP Robin Williams.
