A Reprieve?

I didn't finish a small paint job on Friday. Told her I'd be back Monday afternoon to knock it out. All good.
Just finished up my morning thing here and was about to head over to Friday's customer's place to roll a couple doors and pick up my gear.
Before I can get there she calls me to tell me that the flight she thought she was taking on Wednesday was actually this morning. She's in Florida and the house is locked my with my tools in it.

Well... ok. This is a new one for me. I guess I don't have to work this week? Hmmmmmm.
How do you bill for this?

Re: A Reprieve?

You don't. You should have taken your tools with you bro. LOL. Period. My men are not allowed to leave your tools on a job ever. They should not assume they know where I'm going to send them the next day or what they will be doing.

Tough call, if you got over there before she called you, you could have had a trip charge. Other than that, it's your ugly baby.

Re: A Reprieve?

Ugh, can't say as I've ever had that happen. Once I told a painting client of mine that I would be at the house tomorrow at 8:30. He said the door would be unlocked. It was not. No way to reach him at work. I had my extension ladder so I tried an upstairs window which was unlocked. When he came home for lunch he said he thought I meant 8:30 PM! Now, why he would think a painter would start at 8:30 in the evening, I'll never know.

Oh never you fret. The good tools always come with me. All I left were my wrapped up brushes and pans. They're now going to be pushed to the outer limits of salvageable, but I wrapped them pretty tight. They should make it. I'm more annoyed that I have to go back again. Wasn't a big check I'm missing out on, but the schedule has an asterisk now.

Whatever. Supposed to be a storm coming tonight. Guess I'll get a head start on bread and milk.

Only brushes and pans?...

Sounds like you're looking for a reason to take off...

This whole thing is just an excuse to post here.

I don't know what I'd do with myself if I ever got a real job.

Exactly. If I had another job I needed to get to & those small items were still on another job, I'd buy new pans & brushes & get my ass to work instead of using it as an excuse to not work.

That's kinda dick.

Dude obviously does his thing to his customers satisfaction... Staying busy.

Hell, just today I called an audible because my Dad needed a ride to Tampa to go pick something up in my truck. I love my Dad but I'll be damned if he's driving my truck with a trailer.

Just means I'll have a couple late days this week. We all get to do that, if his wife makes it so he can take a week off... Seems he's the smartest one here

Re: A Reprieve?

I'm with Jaws on this one. I never leave anything on the job that I wouldn't give away. Learned that lesson a long time ago and everytime I forgot something always happened. Never again.

Re: A Reprieve?

Guys, you're not supposed to take a thread like this seriously. Jeez. If I had posted this in the business forum, then there would be cause for concern.

This is off topic. This entire thread is just a lead up to me telling you that the customer happens to be blind and when I got the call I muttered to myself, "Out of sight, out of mind."
Nobody was around to hear that bit of absolute brilliance, so I obviously rushed right home to tell the internet.
Before I could even do that though everybody's coming at me like I'm leaving my equipment all over the highway or something.
The nerve of you people!
