I spent the weekend kicking back in Austin.

Closing my eyes and pretending I am still there isn't working.

Those pointy things on the front of this 1956 Cadillac are called "Dagmars". The woman whose photo graces the wall is Dagmar.

Scene is the lobby at the GM Tech/Design Center.

My father-in-law sold a convertible just like that car for $175,000.
I think it was called in El Dorado barrettes?

"Biarritz"

Won't say how much I paid for NOS air cleaner shell, then traded it even up for an original in extra fine condition.

Re: Random Pictures For Fun.

The last El Dorado with the long wheel base was 1978.

I sold a 1978 Biarritz to a chap that came in wearing denim bib overalls. He probably weighed 300 lbs.

He asked me how much without a trade. Our usual 1st response was to take 10% off. I did the math (we were still outside next to the car...no test drive, not much looking it over...not much of anything.

List price was $18,700.00 +...I calculated 10% off and told him.

His response...I'll take it.

Me thinking to myself (yeah, sure you will)

I asked him how he wanted to pay.

He took out a 4" wad of cash from his bib overalls and said in a slow, distinct Sussex County accent..."Will cash be okay"?

I made 10% sale price of that for commission.

From the time he walked in until the time he left...1 hour.

Fastest money I ever made back then. (maybe even today)

I learned a lesson that day about judging books.....
