Power Scooters And Skateboards

It won't be long before the dipchits ruin it for everyone.

At 15-20 mph on some of those things, in or adjacent to traffic...no helmet...students...what could possibly go wrong?

I recently had a guy on a power skateboard splitting the lanes in heavy traffic, downhill grade, doing 20+...no protection, just riding a Boosted board wearing ear buds. Kinda like when a motorcycle is running between lanes.

A millennial employee of one of my siblings has undergone multiple surgeries over the last three weeks from a scooter injury. Some kind of vertical leg fracture, and they say "he may walk normally again."

Crazy risks that might involve any one of us. I've had these idiots come too close on the roads. I'm sure more regulation is forthcoming.

Millennials have no self respect these days... Riding a scooter in public

Everyone knows scooters are like fat chicks. Its okay to ride one but you never let your friends see you on it...

Sorry, reminded me of my buddy who used to always say that.

I did. Where?

Because I got a story about the comedian - the one who smashes watermelons - forget his name just now.

Re: Power Scooters And Skateboards

He was crazy to the core in his early days.

So when cable TV was in its infancy, Las Vegas got cable. Back then, the whole shebang was about 1 mile square.

So anyway, my friend, who was originally from Little Rock, moved to Las Vegas, and settled there, and he had cable. And I made a trip out to visit.

One of the local casinos had a channel on that cable, and would put up live shows from their stage.

And Gallagher was on a couple times - First time I'd seen him.

So now, he ups the ante: I forget if it was a skateboard, or roller blades, but he's gonna be towed behind a vehicle up the scenic drive thru the mountains where all the rich folk live.

So, the stunt rolls, live camera in a chase vehicle, he's whizzing up the curving boulevard, cautious at first, then does some back and forth across the lanes.

Hits one curve though, and g forces swing him out, hitting a street lamp pole square on.

There he is, live, leg bending in a way that is not natural. Dude broke his thigh.

Yup.

No, it was my buddy's favorite saying about mopeds. He had bunches of little sayings that would have me dying laughing. They were always sexist but always funny.

Another was, "Hey, she might be a 2 but 5 twos equal a 10!" And his credo "Go low early..."

And maybe you are a little curmudgeonlh too.

The powered skateboard is the wackest, tamest, most unpunk thing I've ever seen.

Re: Power Scooters And Skateboards

Where I live motorized and non-motorized scooter and skateboards are everywhere. Mostly ridden by millennials, although in San Francisco you get 40 and 50 year olds riding them.

My wife saw a techie millennial fall off his non-motorized scooter twice into the path of traffic on a main thoroughfare, luckily did not get run over.

In the past I used to work on mopeds and they were ok. easy to work on. and there weren't that many (early 70's). The Arab embargo happened and then you couldn't sell them fast enough.

It comes down to whether or not some people has a sense of balance and coordination, and some don't. Same thing with common sense.

Re: Power Scooters And Skateboards

3 serious accidents this week in San Diego on scooters. The business model can't work with helmet laws as people don't go walking around with helmets so the helmet law was repealed.

I could care less as long as they don't hit me or mine and I don't have to help pay for the hospital bills but regarding the former it's luck and regarding the latter we all are paying and will pay more and more as there's more accidents.

I must say though the motorized skateboards look like a lot of fun, the scooters do too but when you see some of the people riding on them it's obvious it's going to go south on them at some point.

Re: Power Scooters And Skateboards

For the speeds involved, helmets result in more head injuries. Cases where your head would have hit nothing, the helmet catches it - a bigger target and more torque.
