Re: Our Police Officers Are Truly Great People - Thank A Cop Today.

This thread is very area oriented. In NJ most of the cops in a given town are related in some way, either by blood or having been in the same class of theives together. The cops in NJ are so crooked they make the elected officals seem pretty straight. And as far as politicians in NJ goes, the FBI tends to round them up in bus sized loads every so often and charge them with graft and corruption. Oh and it is NJ so the Rabbis can't be left out they were put on a bus last summer for money laundering with Israel.
No need to thank cops in jersey, they will just take a little off the top of ticket sales. The first and last weeks of the month are ticket seasons here.

Leo's been shot?? Who did it, Gus??

Sorry, couldn't resist! Well, I could have, but maybe a little levity can keep this thing civil.

Let's back track here....

I thought all cops and firemen WERE contractors.

Around me, every single cop or paid ff has a side business that they run WHILE on shift. No joke.

My ex tile sub makes $160k per year as a cop and has a five truck tile business. He owns two million dollar + homes and lives like a rockstar.

Another cop I know runs a huge landscaping business.

Where we are there is literally nothing for these $100k+ a year cops to do all day. You see them sitting in their cars on their BBs and iPhones surfing the net.

I wish I knew then what I know now.

NO! Chiefs in NY/NJ top out around 150k.

110k is the Norm for such a position.

I do not believe that Greg mentioned anything about his rank, so suffice it to say, this Cop is NOT a Chief!

He stated 160 and called him a cop. That is why I asked what rank. I'm thinking sure not a street cop. I know things are different from here to there, but......

He's not a Chief, but he is top of the pay scale. Remember, these guys get overtime for thinking harder than normal, so they rake the money in.

Then, when they retire, they cash in their 2,000 unused sick days and get huge lump sum payouts.

Our state is so terribly beyond fixing, it's not even worth trying to do.

There just broke a Story in NYC about a FDNY Electrician that made NEARLY twice his yearly Paycheck in OT! As did his SON! They may be facing Criminal Charges for Fraud!!!

So YES! OT most certainly could garner such a pay scale! Even LEGIT OT!

Hackensack police chief faces fraud charge
(04/30/10) HACKENSACK (AP) - The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office has assumed temporary oversight of the Hackensack Police Department after insurance fraud charges were filed against the longtime chief of police.
Prosecutor John L. Molinelli said Friday that Hackensack Police Chief Ken Zisa is no longer in charge of the department.
Friday's decision comes one day after authorities charged Zisa and his former girlfriend, Kathleen Tiernan, with insurance fraud.
Molinelli declined to say whether Zisa resigned or was forced out.
Hackensack's city manager says Zisa remains on the payroll and his status has not yet been determined.
Capt. Tomas Padilla will be the acting officer in charge. Zisa has not been available for comment.

Well...this just reinforces my conviction to NEVER travel to the East Coast.

I mean I never really found easterners all that friendly to begin with...and now I learn that many of your law enforcement officers are corrupt.

How about y'all just stay there and we'll stay out here and everyone just move along...nothing to see here.

Re: Our Police Officers Are Truly Great People - Thank A Cop Today.

So, I have quite the muddy rear parking pad in my back yard due to my addition's excavation overburden.
I had had enough of the muck last week and decided to do something about it. I went out into the street and started sweeping and shoveling up pea gravel left over from last winter's sanding trucks.
It was about 11 PM when the Cops pulled up to ask me what I was doing, and had I seen a 6'2" thin white male around the area?.

"Well, I'm 6'2 and a slim white male, any other description?"
"Do you have light brown hair?"
"Nope, blonde"
"What were you doing again?"
"Sweeping up, filling some potholes and taking care of my muddy pad"
"Well, that's nice of you, have a good night"
"You too, sirs"

So, I agree, good guys.

You are the only rude person with your put downs, name calling, and negative generalizations of 1/3 rd of this country on this thread, yet its the easterners that aren't friendly. Nice!

Enough. The spirit of this thread turned long ago. I didn't see this as a debate, just a comment on someone's admiration for police & fireman. There are, of course other trades that can be admired too. However, the personal comments towards others made this thread lose any meaningful message.
