You're from Cali, you aren't thinking anyone working as a public servant in this state, is not being well compensated are you? Many California teachers make 6 figures a year.

I think a lot of government pensions are way out of whack. That is why a lot of municipalities are going broke.

I'm sure we have all read headlines and seen articles in our newspapers showing a list of what local salaries and pensions are for government employees.

Last I heard Illinois was tops on the list for corruption. I saw the list...........It was insane.

The pensions are way overboard. They have been voting them selves raises on top of raises year after year despite shortfalls in taxpayers contributing. The public has not been able to match it. They used to not make that much but got those pensions and bennies, now they are well compensated during thier working career and have jacked those bennies too.

Who is voting themselves raises year after year?
Civil service employees can't vote themselves a raise.

Politicians...yes.

Employees dont vote? Unions dont go on a pay forward system when they vote?

Tony
Maybe it's time to take a look back at most of the threads you started . They're really irrelevant for a contractors forum . Seems like you get off on starting these threads and then disappear .

There is no way on God's green earth that an employer saves more in taxes than he spends on pensions. So I have to ask where's the advantage in taxes for them?

Re: NY Fire Dept. Year 2014 Retirees Are Getting $100,000/yr. Pensions

Even if the first responders sat around watching TV and eating donuts all day, I'm perfectly OK with that as long as they are on the scene when everything hits the fan.. which they are every time I've witnessed something bad.

When I worked in IT many years ago, the majority of my time was spent goofing off and waiting for problems to occur... or at least that's how management saw it. Part of the reason why I looked like the Maytag repairman is because I took a lot of preventative actions to keep the network running smoothly.

I imagine that the same applies to firemen. When they aren't out fighting fires, they are probably out preventing them. That's worth every bit of $100K in my book.

And when those politicians promise them everything under the sun in exchange for the union vote, they know exactly what they are doing.

There are police chiefs in small suburban town getting $200-300k boat checks and $150k pensions before they are 50 along with free healthcare for life

You are right some cops kill their wives right in front of their kid and keep on shooting in front of other cops. Yet gets hugs and pats on the back when it is over, without 1 other cop firing a shot. Heroes all around.

You make it sound like the employees vote themselves a raise.

All the guys on the highway dept......"Yeah we voted ourselves a $5hr raise."

Depts. heads have to prepare a yearly budget.

I thought they were heroes until I find out a significant fraction are arsonists, another 'disorder', so they are both good guys and bad guys within the same week or month.

Just like a significant fraction of CEOs are sociopaths, and CEOs are heroes to some.

He is not completely wrong, A friend of mine who is on a paid FD and is also an arson investigator as well a high rise rescue trainer was telling me the actual statistics. The true number was higher than I expected.

In the rural are that I live in there were 2 caught in 2 different departments . 1 of them set fire to a church summer camp

Actually it's not much prevention. It's being in a state of constant preparedness (making sure everything is ready), doing maintenance, training and house keeping around the station. Not an intense experience, rather monotonous and boring. But that's the price the inner id (child, boy) pays to play with the fire trucks (engines), water and especially the fire.

Around here property owners keep things fire safer. The firemen only inspect it.

They might be on this list somewhere.

Maybe I should check if I'm on this list.

That female astronaut who went cross-country in diapers is mentioned, I think.
