New Range/night Stand Pistol

Picked up a brand new CZ-P09 9mm last week and have had a chance to put about 3-400 rounds through it. Wow. I was a touch skeptical as I'm not really a polymer fan. I'm a 1911 guy and am thoroughly impressed.

One of the most accurate pistols, out of the box, I've ever seen. Trigger is outstanding. Just this side of custom 1911 territory. Double action has a bit of take up. Single action just a hair of creep. The break is glass rod sharp.

Build quality, fit and finish is excellent. Ergos are almost perfect. My only complaints are: 1. The slide release is a bit of a stretch and I have big hands, and 2. The slide sits low in the frame so there doesn't seem to be a lot to grab onto. That also has a lot to do with it's accuracy and lack of felt recoil too though so I'll gladly take that trade off.

It came equipped with a de-cocker that can be swapped to a traditional thumb safety. I don't intended to carry this gun so the de-cocker will stay. Also came with two extra back straps, barrel lock, two magazines, and a nice case.

I like it so much I'll probably pick up a P-07 for carry duty. Now if ammo would only go back to $5/box....

Re: New Range/night Stand Pistol

Looks nice.I'm sort of a gun guy but am not familiar with that particular weapon.I'm kind of a 1911 man too.Have a few around.I found some Ruger P-95's on sale a couple weeks ago and picked one up just for kicks. They are a lower end gun but for the price hard to beat IMO after shooting a few hundred rounds .The only problem is the travel on the trigger sucks.I just liked it because of the weight and it felt good in my hand so thought I'd try one.
Have a good gun guy close so think I'll see what he can do with it.

I'm a 1911 fanboy but I do like my Springfield XD (Croatian made). Holds 13+1 rds of .45 but 9mm would be nice for practice.

I gotta tell you this story.

There' a restaurant I frequent and I'm good friend with one of the cooks. We've gone out and killed lots of paper over the years. We were talking one time, and the owner of the place overheard us.

After the cook headed back into the kitchen, the owner came over. She asked, "So you have about TWO THOUSAND ROUNDS sitting at home?!?!" I said, "Sure I do. Why?"

She said, "What the f*@( does someone need with that many rounds? Makes it sound like you're going to walk into a place and start shooting it up."

I replied, "Well, first off, when you go plinking, you want to have what you think you're going to need on hand. No reason to go to the store just because someone says, 'Hey, let's go shoot this afternoon!" Besides, sometimes the stores are out of what you want."

"But, 2,000 rounds?!?!? You go out and use that much?"

"Actually, no. I only use up about 2 or 3 hundred when I go out shooting. But that 2,000 figure is spread out over the several calibers I own and use. Then when I get low on something, I stock up at one of the gun shows......"

"Well, I just don't see why anyone would need to have that many rounds in their house. It just seems crazy........."

And then she said this: (I'm not kidding, either!):

"............. I don't even know what a round is."

I had to pause on that one for a second. Here she is, preaching to me about me exercising my 1A rights, about how I should not be allowed to have that many rounds and having that many should be illegal....... and then she flat-out states she doesn't even know what a 'round' is?!?!!? WTF, sista?!"

Now for the fun part:

I reach down to my left ankle, pull my S&W 642 j-frame out of it's Fobus holster, drop the wheel and let a round slide into my left hand. I push the wheel back up and set the .38 round on the table.

"That, my dear, is a 'round'".

Gawd, the look on her face was absolutely priceless.

She probably thought you were talking about shots at the local watering hole.

Maybe. There is one place I go that's next to the river.

Re: New Range/night Stand Pistol

Thats a nice looking piece. I've been wanting to pick up a handgun for a while now. Too tight on cash though. I've been leaning towards a 1911 myself, but that seems like a nice alternative. Not too badly priced either.

Re: New Range/night Stand Pistol

Have a friend who I deer hunt with.He bought a S&W 50 cal S&W revolver a couple years ago with a nice scope. They sent it off to England ,I think for the high performance and porting stuff.Has about $1800 in it .Not a plinking gun as the shells he was shooting at that time were $2.30 each.
Nice gun though.I folded up a deer at 125 yards with it.

Yeah, forgot to add - it was $570 out the door... Outstanding trigger, quality, and accuracy for that kind of money new.

Glocks feel horrible to me. I'm well aware of their reliability and aftermarket support. I guess it's just a love or hate thing with them. I like Sigs. Just about every HK I've held felt good. Springfield XD/M are nice. Can't find a Glock I like yet...

It's the grip angle of the Glock I can't get use to.

It's a personal preference thing.

Can't begin to tell you how many weapons I have fired.

IMO, Glock is a pure combat weapon. Speaking from a pure combat point of view.

An individual has to be completely comfortable & confident with what ever weapon they choose.

Does not matter what weapon it is.

1911? not to sure about those...

Get your hands on a CZ75, one of the best shooting pistols IMO. I'm looking to get another one.

From what I've read the P-07/09 is essentially a polymer 75 with the Omega trigger. My brother had a 75 and shooting that was what led me back to CZ. I want a 75 just to have. Legendary pistols in the rest of the world, somewhat unknown in the states.
