Loss Of A Pet

I fought the hard dry soil to bury her deep
But the real struggle was not to weep

If the stars were tears looking for a place to fall
There would be no drought at all

Yes, the drought would be history
Her loyalty to this old fool a mystery

No poet, just a little something dedicated to the memory of a pet.

Name: Dottie (RIP)
Breed: Peek-a-poo
Age: app. 13
DOD: 6-25-12

I have noticed and commented to others aout the responses that are generated here on the loss of pets.

I seldom if ever commented. It was almost like to comment would jinx me.

I knew it would be a little rough when Dottie's time came.

People, I did not have a clue!

Maybe it was just a bad time in my life ( as if there could be a good time for this), but this was the hardest thing to hit me in a long, long time.

Btw, the third line was inspired by an old Willie Nelson song. Something like, " stars are raindrops searching for a place to fall"

Wouldn't want to be accused of plagiarism.

Sorry for your loss. I've been through it 3 times and it can make a hardened to life, grown man cry a river every single time and mourn for months.

Re: Loss Of A Pet

Thanks. I haven't found a pic of her yet. I searched the forums for one I thought I had posted with no luck. I may have one on a memory stick.

Seems like I remember having one of her where she did not show real well due to her color or something.

I will look, maybe I can come with one.

I hate that anyone has to go through this kind of thing. Like I said, I had no idea.

Tomorrow, I will give more details on her death.

I told someone for some reason, it seemed like it would have been easier if she had been it by a car. It was not meant to be.

Sorry for your loss Boman.
Our pets have a place in our hearts, and like it or not, it hurts when they are gone.

My first dog as a kid was hit by a car in town. Hurt and laying in the road with me standing there 3 feet away, he was hit again. Didn't quite finish him off, my father had to shoot him. Still brings tears to my eyes. Never think being hit by a car is better than _ _ _.

Edit - sorry about your loss - you hit a nerve. It doesn't really go away.

Sorry for your loss. If it helps, that was a extremely well written poem. Props on your little poem.

Re: Loss Of A Pet

Sorry for your loss. I've lost four that were very hard and one of those will still bring a tear nearly 20 years later...Dogs just give you that unconditional love and loyalty that, frankly, you can't even get from a spouse ALL the time. Dogs love you even if you abuse them, neglect, forget them, or leave them. They treat you as if you were the most important soul on the planet every second of every day. How could that not crush you when it's gone?

Re: Loss Of A Pet

Condolences boman47k.

We were a two cat, one dog family.

We lost one of the cats (killed by a neighbor's dog) a couple of months back. I had her cremated and she was returned in a very nice wooden box with an engraved plaque on it. My wife still can't look at it without crying. She and Sugar Baby were very close.

I almost regret getting so close to our dog as I know some day I'll face the pain of loss that you are currently experiencing. But I'm sure the joy, laughter and companionship she provides is worth it.

Boman, condolences man, it hurts, I know.

I do my crying while I'm digging the grave. That's 5 for me now. Kicks my ass every time.

There's no shame in having a good cry over the one you love.

Re: Loss Of A Pet

Someone asked for a pic. Been a while, but my daughter found this picture of my little girl.

Whew! Still .......damn! What is happening to the men in this world? Why do some of us get so upset over a damned dog. Yeah,....just a....just a ...dog.

Maybe it has something to do with living in a dog-eat-dog world, and our dogs are part of a very small circle we can abssolutely trust.

Come to think of it, Dottie and I had a couple of things slightly in common, health issues and aging/slowing down about the same time. Plus, we spent a lot of time together. Before I got my laptop computer, she was my laptop.

Anyway, I was reading another thread about pets and replacing pets, etc., and thought I would post this pic since someone had asked.

Webmail links don't work for pics here. You need to upload it to the forum or a hosting service.
