Re: Let's Keep The CT Members In Tornado Alley.....

40 years ago today I was staring at an F4 bearing down on me here in Omaha. Ran a light, hid out in a cement parking garage. It passed a mile away and I couldn't even see or hear it from there. Then couldn't find a way home through the rubble.

I left a job in a neighborhood thirty minutes before it got hit. Just proposed a bid over the phone in the same neighborhood, he said there's no power. Starting friday. Going to look at a complete bathroom remodel in the same neighborhood tomorrow. Might get some roofs and siding now. So far no injuries reported. Lots of houses have rivers running through them right now.

I dunno....

You see money. I see "things" people spent a lifetime building...gone. Photographs, family heirlooms and other stuff insurance money can't replace.

Never been involved in this kind of destruction but I'm betting you just don't wake up the day after and kiss the wife goodbye...have a great day...gotta go to work. Oh...and honey....keep your eye open for an insurance check....this is gonna be great...new stuff.

That's just not the way I see it.

Business must be a little off for you.....

I don't want to see anyone's home taken from them ! There are objects in ones home that can never be replaced . Not to mention Family members.. If I was waiting for a Tornado to keep me in business ?? I'd say that's sad.

There is no such thing as free money. We all pay through the high cost of insurance when disaster strikes. Would not wish it on anyone. Some things can't be replaced.

Re: Let's Keep The CT Members In Tornado Alley.....

M isn't posting to educate, but there are a ton of roofing estimators and roofing crews that do nothing but travel doing storm damage work from Colorado to Texas to wherever. That's pretty much their whole business. The insurance companies set up a claims center that is very responsive and bring in claims adjusters from all over. The budget is known up front and payment usually isn't an issue. Local roofing companies bring in out of state crews and estimators.

Then there are the ripoff artists that scam people.

All in all, it's a good, solid living for the people who chase the storm damage. They don't cause it, but they do rely on mother nature to keep them in business.

I have to say, my mom lost everything to a hurricane and it was bad. I could literally see her health diminish almost day by day. Lived in a tent in humid conditions for three months. Her place was almost leveled by tornadoes that spun off the hurricane.

Prayers are with you and them. Hard to imagine what the stress and anxiety would be like.

Thanks for thinking of us. Those of you that are actually and not after the jobs destruction makes. Wait til you get hit in your home with your family at night and never hear it coming. It happens. What good is money then. I saw two tornadoes on my drive home tonight. A normal 30 minute drive took me an hr and a half with dodging storms and heavy hail.

I got caught in the traffic of people running from it. But luckily my truck wasn't washed away like I saw happen to others on the news
