Lets Have Another For Fun Thread, Favorite War Movie

Mine, obviously, is Where Eagle Dare....1968. And the theme is awesome!

Re: Lets Have Another For Fun Thread, Favorite War Movie

My first thoughts go to two movies that really don't have any action.
The Best Years of Our Lives, which is three guys who return from WWII and have to fit in again.

The Great Escape. Awesome cast, great to watch.

But I also love Band of Brothers, The Pacific, and The Hurt Locker.

I always watch when they're on. No matter how many times I've seen them.

Tough thread....I should have said rank the top ten, because I love all war movies....but Where Eagles Dare was one I remember from being a kid...made in 1968.

I am reading the book by Leckie....of the "Pacific" series. Read the one by Eugene Sledge a week ago.

Re: Lets Have Another For Fun Thread, Favorite War Movie

Agree on Best Years of our Lives. Also my top movie of all time.

The Longest Day would be my favorite action war movie, though Apocalypse Now would be right up there as would Platoon and FMJ.

Too many to choose from.

Does Stripes count?

Kelly's Heroes, yes it is total BS but fun BS.
Most of the others are BS too. That doesn't mean I don't like them though.

BTW, the scene where the guy calls the US on the phone to get a strike called in is based on a true story.

Last weekend Showtime aired the mini series "Lonesome Dove" from 1989 I think. Star studded cast. I enjoyed it!

War movies...not westerns...damn.

I actually read the book before the mini series, and we didn't have a VCR when it was aired originally, so I didn't see it until satellite, but it is at the top. The Outlaw Josie Wales still holds the top place...then LD.

Until a few years ago, you could stop in Archer City Texas and get an autograph from Larry McMurtry.....he ran the book store there, and if you are a movie buff, the Last Picture Show was filmed there.

Oops sorry

Don't think I have one in particular but there was a movie call "Empire of the Sun" with a different spin that was good.

Blackhawk Down, Hamburger Hill, and a recent documentary from Peter Jackson called, "They shall never grow old." The work his team did to restore some WWI footage and make a stunning film out of it, just amazing.

For me it has to be, The Longest Day filmed in 1962 none of todays effects just a good movie when Hollywood made good movies.

Then of course, Schindler's List
