La Mia Famiglia

A number of years ago I was at a funeral for my great aunt on my moms side of the family...the italian one. Of course there were many older ones there who I had never even met but had heard much about, through my immediate family. Over and over throughout the day, I was approched by distant relatives that were excited to tell me about my great, great grandfather Federico who was a mason and about his father, Pietro...a great man in his time. As far as I know, I am the only mason in the family..they were really happy about it... like somebody was carrying the torch..it was cool.

It was really awesome to hear all the stories about them both...it was very animated as you might imagine given the environment. They even produced a few very old pictures and I never forgot them...there were even a couple of a stone house built by Federico in Stamford, CT. So, yesterday we were at my parents and the conversation turned toward long gone relatives. I asked my mom if she had any information about them and she produced a folder that had been mailed to her by a cousin that did some digging into the family record. It contained mostly copies of articles and photos. There was one original of Federico and his wife and a couple of my great great greandmother when she was young. There are immigration papers (copys) from ellis island too.

I thought I would share a couple pictures and clippings from the envelope.

Federico Verderosa

My great grandmother Laura is seated on the lower right...crazy for me to see her that young. She died when I was 13...what a cook. She ALWAYS had something tasty on the the stove and gave my brothers and I wine and espresso when we went over.

Sometimes it's great to sit back and take a look at our "roots". As the Doc says, "very cool"

Che bello. Sono contento che tu abbia trovato queste fotografie della tua famiglia. Non li perdere che non ci sono molte famiglie che non sanno chi sono i loro nonni e che mestiere facevano.
