Re: Jersey Thread

Anyone close to Colts Neck, any more news on that fire with the guy being shot on the front lawn?

When I was reading that I said to myself something is fk'up there.
The father sets fire to his own house, he is charged with arson, a little while later there is a huge fire at his kid's house and it burns down a million dollar mansion with the whole family dead inside including kids and the husband found dead on the front lawn with a gunshot wound and they say it doesn't look like it was self-inflicted.

From what I can speculate is a brother killed his brother, and his family. He then set the house on fire. He also set his own house on fire, with his wife and children in it. They survived. The brothers were business partners.

Ahh, New Jersey traffic. I get to experience it now and then. My wife is from Bergen County so we visit occasionally .

There are a lot of nice towns up there, it seems once you're off the highway the back roads aren't so bad. Then there are good restaurants, good pizza and hard-rolls from the deli, we don't have that here.

I take that route too.
It's great as long as you don't get stuck behind grandma or grandpa.

Not 100% sure, but I think this was their company
https://squareup.com/

If so, something happened stock wise a week or two ago. They were mentioned on Nightly Business Report.

When you back this way, check out Belmont Tavern... No other place in the world like this and they got the best "shrimp beeps"

Cool. I really like it up there.

My wife and I might have ended up around there or Butler, but it's just a little too far from where I typically work in the 280/78 corridors, plus taking 23 North every night from her job would be less than ideal for her.
I'm always happy when I get a job up that way. Really nice change of pace. Some good booze spots up that way too!

That's funny. Most of my work the past 8 years has been from a couple of guys I met on Breaktime who have become very good friends.

One is from Scotch Plains and the other, while currently living in Wanaque, is in South Plainfield. SO I've got plenty of experience sitting on 287 and 24.

For Wanaque, wouldn't touch 23, but I know well what you mean. Been like that for decades.

Curious as to what you think are the good watering holes up here. While I do take her out to dinner, I haven't gone out just to drink in years.

Re: Jersey Thread

Anyone remember FM Station/ Mother's on 23? Great place. Gone now. Grasshopper 2 was over there. I see a new place on that same exit. Looks like a steak/bar place.

In the other direction by South Plainfield I recall spending a few New year's Eve at a place called Levels. That was fun.

While I'm reminiscing......... I spent several years renting a kick ass party house at Hunter Mountain. Great times

Re: Jersey Thread

Mother's became FM Station for a short time, now a parking lot/bus depot.
New place called Mother's in underneath, in the Mountain View section on 202.

Re: Jersey Thread

I still haven't been to new Mother's. Heard it's cool.

My buddy up in Riverdale love's Wes' Tavern on Hamburg Turnpike.
If you're into craft beer, there's a spot called Beef Trust in Pompton Lakes that's awesome. Only drawback is that it's in a strip mall in the middle of town and all their beers are really alcoholic. I never go there because I want to have a beer without risking getting accidentally drunk.
That's mostly why I stick around town here if I'm going out to watch a game.
I'll have 4 or 5 Buds at Johnnie's, pay 4 or 5 bucks for them, then walk home.

If you do 78, Liberty Tavern is a great spot to know. Right off the highway. I'm a huge fan of real quiet low key spots where I can get a couple cheap drinks and a burger then head home.
