Icy Roads, Schools Closed - Michigan

We went from - 10 degrees Monday, to +39 degrees on Wednesday.

But not before the weather dropped 2-3 inches of very wet, heavy snow.

Then it changed to rain, turning that snow into a thick glaze of pure ice.

Road crews got the paved roads salted, no such luck on the back gravel roads, so schools were all closed.

Trucks with sand sometimes had to drive in reverse to get enough traction to at least cover the intersections.

Icy roads are no fun, I was out in Oregon a few years ago and they had a ice storm on the freeway. Had my 4x chained up only able to drive about 20. But there was chains all over the road from people going to fast and throwing them off, outfits spun around going wrong way . it was a mess.

Ice on heavily crowned roads are a recipe for disaster.

That sucks for sure. Do you have power? We have had a couple of ice storms in the last 15 years that brought down power lines and left a lot of people in the cold and dark for a week or more. I sympathize. Be careful.

I can attest to that after yesterday. I was out with the kids headed to the sawmill to see about getting some timbers sawn for a project and I had a hell of a time staying on some back county roads.
