I Hope This Helps Somebody

A person 'squatting' in a parking space, to text or whatever, finally backed out and hit my wife's car. The driver admitted fault several times.
This small dent is worth about a kilobuck.

Well, just like motor vehicle clerks who hold your license hostage, the claims adjuster for the driver's ins. company figured she have me jump through some hoops of her own making, holding over us the vague promise of someday seeing money.

BTW, a library book on insurance companies told me that some companies have a quota of third party claims they are supposed to deny.
And, in general, for every dollar you spend on insurance, you get back fifty cents.

She also advised me in the initial phone call about the Maryland law of Contributory Negligence and I can maybe get her fired for giving me legal advice.

Anyway, long story short, it came to me that the only way to avoid her games is to be completely indifferent to the outcome.
So, I told my wife I will pay for her car regardless of what happens. If I can interpret my own behavior, apparently it is worth several hundred to me to play this out on my own terms.

So now this lady is suddenly & urgently wanting me to get the car fixed and get this thing off her plate. I've seen this shift before in people of her type and maybe she senses something is going very wrong. Perhaps this file is attracting unwanted attention within her office.

Just today she pulled the "I don't know why you are upset" routine (over the phone, not in writing, of course) but I have a string of e-mail exchanges where I explained my conduct, and hers, quite clearly, the whole way along.

I doubt that I've written anything that anybody can use against me.

The Home Office will be getting those e-mails very soon, along with my account of her three phone calls.

At the end of this last call where we both spoke over each other, I finally said "It is always a pleasure to talk to you." I have to say there was a pause before this offensive lady hung up, and I'm quite certain she was trying very hard to restrain herself from speaking her mind.

I've already gotten my money's worth from this company.

Thanks, folks. I've got a reasonable bid for the job and we'll see what happens.

All of your story posts strike me as someone who thinks everyone is out to get them, a conspiracy theorist type. Am I wrong?

It isn't a conspiracy if it's true.

Re: I Hope This Helps Somebody

I can't tell you how much research I've done into conspiracies and the theories but even Dr. Karl Popper couldn't decide on this.

It may be Russell's Teapot, where it can't be proven either way.

I've also read the textbooks about what could be my personality type and I recommend everyone take this journey.
Start with the DSM-IV: almost everyone is in there, or has been in there, or will be in there, at one time or another.

In this case I'm going with Dr. Berne, who said that people who play games do not want their games to made public.
This person is already provoked, and has failed to provoke me, and that is in my favor.

@heavy_d:
you seem to be asking me to discredit myself
that's a job I leave to (plenty of) others
if I'm not mistaken you are at the end of a very long line. Sorry.

Hey! Just because we think there's someone out to get us, doesn't mean they aren't!!!

Someone is out to get you. You think they are. Good for you.
Someone is out to get you. You think they aren't. Bad for you.
Someone is not out to get you. You think they aren't. Good for you.

Someone is not out to get you. You think they are. You could gather more evidence but your collection process could be biased in favor of your conclusion so you need someone else to review your evidence.

Well as long as you have time for all these shenanigans, whether real or not, then more power to you.

Re: I Hope This Helps Somebody

We got a check today for slightly more than the body shop agreed to do the work for last Friday. It was in the amount that the insur. company appraiser decided on.

The check was dated about 3 days after the accident and before their appraiser had seen the car. Do you actually think they held onto this check for that long? And how did they know the amount if their appraiser hadn't seen the car?

Note that I never actually asked for reimbursement.
Instead I made my displeasure known to the mindgameplaying insurance lady, a person who worked for the state agency that investigates insurance companies (without actually making a complaint), and a media rep. who works for another company associated with the parent company of this company. He unwisely had his e-mail address on the Net.

Many company Websites are designed to frustrate and control and tire you out - you need the name, title and e-mail address of a company principal. And taping phone conversations is only advisable in those areas that allow one-party taping.

I even e-mailed a company with a similar name by mistake, but that may have worked in my favor. People who play games do not want these things revealed to a wider audience.

If it happens like on "60 minutes", this company will say that our getting this check at this late date had nothing to do with the series of e-mails I wrote to people, far and wide.

I wanted to now send the company a bill for my time and effort @$90/hr and I would let them estimate how much time I spend writing all those e-mails.

But. . .over my objections. . .my wife advises me not to pursue these sadistic people any further.

OK, I'll comply.

Yes, I depend on her to tell me things about myself that I don't know, and maybe don't want to know, but I need to know.

These women, they know things!

In return, I hope I promote her well-being.

BTW, the check date thing is wrong. I saw what I wanted to see, even after reading
http://www.amazon.com/Mastermind-Thi.../dp/014312434X
which warned me about this kind of thing.

But my wife agrees that these people jerked us around and had a good old time doing it.
