Yup. He didn't get an infrastructure bill passed the first day on the job.

Crumbling Infrastructure?

Two months ago, during the State of the Union speech, President Trump noted the United States’ crumbling infrastructure.

“Both parties should be able to unite for a great rebuilding of America’s crumbling infrastructure,” Trump told Congress at the time. “I know that Congress is eager to pass an infrastructure bill, and I am eager to work with you on legislation to deliver new and important infrastructure investment.”

“This is not an option. This is a necessity,” the president added.

During his 2016 campaign, Trump called for $1 trillion over a decade on infrastructure issues across the United States.

Sounds more like it's blaming congress. Trump seems all for it.

Says they're both eager... but doesn't mention Congress calling for infrastructure on the campaign trail, even though they do it all the time and Congress is actually in charge of the purse strings...

Trump is zero'd in on calling for it on the campaign trail and SOTU...

Shouldn't this have been taken care of in the stimulus bill passed many years ago?

Congress could take back that billion from those 3 Mexican countries and use it for roads but they won’t.

The left leaning congress would rather give the money to other countries than spend it on it's own citizens. That way they can claim that we are broke and need to raise taxes.

We'll get around to the infrastructure spending after borrowing rates skyrocket.

Haven't they already compared to the near zero rates in the last administration?

We should have locked in some projects when rates where at zero, and unemployment was high. But no....not much got done, with all the party fighting. What's been surprising to me is that more hasn't gotten started this time around. Just more of the same...talk without action.

And our local highways are a royal embarrassment and time-sucking pita's.

The vast majority of the money the US gives to other countries is military aid, aka handouts to our defense industry. Well, to be fair it's in the interest of our big corps to have friendly countries out there even if they are beating down their own citizens, so I guess that's in our interest.
If you take out the military aid, then take out the policing and drug war money, the amount we give for actual aid for things like food to other countries is a fraction of what the rest of the developed world gives.
But yeah, I hear ya on spending some of that cash here at home where we could see some benefit. I'd have much rather seen us rebuild the roads and schools here than spend all that money on the Iraq war.

Actually Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell's fault.

They were the ones in charge of the purse strings back when Obama was pushing hard for these projects when the everybody was out of work and loan money was dirt cheap.

They weren't called "The Party of NO" for nothing back then.

Trouble is at the end of the day that $1trillion turns out to be mostly private funding, as in turning highways over to privatization and making them toll roads.

We grew up with toll roads in the Northeast. Don't know how the rest of the country is going to like them though.
