Re: Hurricane Florence

Forecast is getting better. Or at least a lot less grim. By the time it hits it could be down to a 2... Looks like it's going to stall over water because Bermuda High is going to build and bounce it a little farther south than expected. Haven't dodged the bullet yet but that is some good news.

Now going more west southwesterly once it hits land. Looks like the trip to Richmond is still on since they cut the rainfall prediction for that area almost in half now.

If you want the hurricane to change its stats, make a definite forecast.

One forecast I heard was that they were expecting 10 Trillion gallons of water to fall. Holy Moly!

Re: Hurricane Florence

One inch of rain over a 1 square mile area is equal to 17,378,743 gallons of water.

10 trillion gallons is one heck of a lot of water. There is going to be a lot of flooding for sure.

I'm getting my generators ready just in case they have forecast the track wrong. Going to stock up on supplies as well.

Sounds like they are going to shut down the nuclear reactors in the area. Wonder what percentage of the power they supply down there?

They do it here usually too. Not just nuclear, a lot of time they'll shut certain sectors down so the power guys can get main lines restrung and then worry about secondary lines and sub stations. I'd be willing to bet they'll be close to 3-4 million without power for 12-24 hrs if there is any kind of population density.

Re: Hurricane Florence

Good news/bad news for the 5pm update.

Good news - It looks like by landfall it'll be a cat 2

Bad news-. It is getting wider which will help weaken the overall force of the wind but broaden the swath of storm surge and bring even more rain to a wider area.

The bigger it gets the weaker it's going to be. It may strengthen a bit until around noon tomorrow but will start to deteriorate pretty significantly after that. The wind shear and cooler deepwater will start to affect it. Crossing fingers for a rain event and not much more.

Edit:. Still if you're on the coast it makes sense to leave now if possible. The aftermath of these things SUCK! Not to mention that it has the possibility to strengthen over the next several hours and if it doesn't stall could be a major cane. Power will be gone in many areas and it sucks being around for it. Florida is a we'll oiled machine for hurricane events and it sucks here after them. Going to be a cluster for Friday Sat. Plan to come back Sun and enjoy a long weekend somewhere.

Re: Hurricane Florence

Talked to my friend who lives in Ocracoke. he left yesterday after boarding up.
His house faces the sound and he told me he is more worried that the houses that face the ocean come apart and all their debris slams into his.

Re: Hurricane Florence

The forecast here has gone from 50-60 mph winds and 10-20 inches of rain

To now 10-18 mph wind and 1-2 inches of rain

Lucy for us

It still looks rough for areas to the south , Wilmington is expecting 100 mph winds and and winds over 50 mph for days . Crazy rain amounts

Good luck to all of you down there , stay safe , and God bless
