I'll go on record and say she's bringing a 20ft+ surge and wave heights [email protected] 40+ as she approaches shallow waters.
Hope you're wrong. That's Andrew type destruction.

Re: Hurricane Florence

This summer has been good for one thing... I now know with certainty where every point of entry is for water on the entire house.

The answer is above, below, and a little bit on the sides.

Hoping this thing peters out before bumming too many people out. Looks like Bermuda is ok at least.

Re: Hurricane Florence

While I was falling asleep last night, the thought ran through my mind that it would be crazy if the already saturated ground, plus hurricane rains, caused another tree to fall on the house that we are about two months from completing after gutting it from the last tree...

What are the odds... I hope I'm not jinxing us typing this out.

I've got a 30 year old maple...right on the property line. When I had the 6' chain link fence put in, they made it a 3 sided box around it.

I've had it topped twice and hate to cut it down as it supplies a lot of shade in the afternoon.

It's huge (4'-4.5' diameter) and branches out about 8' from the ground into 3 more huge trunks. Every time the wind blows hard...that's what's on my mind...that tree.

Latest estimate to take her down...$3K

I hate hurricanes...mostly because of that tree.

Re: Hurricane Florence

We've had plenty of rain here the the past few days.

My basement, that "never" gets water, leaked a bit. Found out the culprit is a huge maple tree we have 20 feet or so from the house has grown big enough roots to cut off the drainage swale.

Well I fixed those roots yesterday with the mini ex.

Getting geared up for the generator...just in case.

The Governor here called State of Emergency today, claims we could have 10" of rain...
that's more than we can handle on a good day, let alone once the ground has been soaked for a week.

Hang on fellas, it should be an interesting week or so.

This is one of the nice things about New England. We generally donít have to worry about a direct hit from these storms. Man, I hope it settles down and leaves everyone alone. Itís been a rough go and we are only in the beginning of the season.

Nobody's talking about the counter rotation of the system over Cuba...it's like reverse shear only adding to the intensification...The ominus mainstream weather reports should be in full bloom by morning I would reckon.

Damn NOAA keeps crashing...probably due to panic in the "nerd" community.

Re: Hurricane Florence

Remember the angle of approach (Sandy), shallow shores of the region...He mentions if she hits NC, it would be the furthermost strike of a Cat 4 on record...completely unprecedented... and if by chance approaches cat 5 like I'm thinking, completely unforecastable.

Thank goodness we know how to fix stuff...and assess the potential problems. God help my neighbor, who can hardly boil water as a life skill. (Actually, I'll be helping the neighbor..I just meant the mental strain.)

My friend lives on Ocrakoke. I know him well and he is probably already headed to his BIL in VA.

And speaking of VA, supposed to head down to Richmond Friday night to pick up the wife's new Jeep Grand Cherokee on Saturday.
Well, maybe not.
