High Blood Pressure

I've had neck pain for the last 2 weeks and it kept getting worse... Blood pressure shot up to 190/109....Felt like s**t....Went in got a pain shot a tablet (I don't know what it was) to lower the pressure quickly and an EKG....(this worried me but they said my heart was fine..wow dodged a bullet there...for now)

Any how i was trying to lower it naturally about a week before this ...radical diet change...low sodium etc with some success and then the pain escalated...i was worried it was arterial blockage but i would have been on the floor by now...it's muscle....so they give me tizanidine for the muscle....works only so good for about 3 hours and Lisinopril probably the worst BP medicine out there, Made from snake venom....no joke look it up....it hasn't done jack either.

Still feel like hell

Re: High Blood Pressure

losing weight, laying off booze, diet & moderate exercise will work wonders.

diet does not necessarily need to be radical as that will be very tough to follow.

try a baby aspirin & garlic.

also breathing exercises work well but take time.

there are other/better meds out there.

I'm normally in Stage 1 Hypertension < 160 diastolic. 145-150 I could live with at my age and BMI....Everything still functions and I feel fine. I'm assuming this pain is what elevated it. When it gets retarded high it causes organ damage...liver, kidneys, etc. Constant headaches, bathroom problems you name it...plus you are taxing your heart like pulling a sack of cement uphill....just bad all around

Thanks brother. You know me I prefer the natural route. If it means eating a grapefruit for breakfast instead of pork sausage so be it. This was an emergency in my eyes I don't like my BP this high and they still didn't fix it....what am I paying for?

You're on the right track. Diet is the key to almost all health problems/wellness.

Beets I read on the Health Ranger's site are the #1 best vegetable/fruit to have included in your diet. The tops are better for you than the roots and like all veggies it's best to eat it raw.

Those are about the same numbers when I got sepsis and later pneumonia.

Last PTSD episode was right at that number and they had the paddles out.

Its fkn nutz.

Yeah it's that acute care chit that bothers me. The whole time they are trying to save your life all you can think about is the bill.

Occassionally, I will dine out with my father and some of his buddies. These guys are all in their 80's. They are all quite the characters. A wealth of knowledge and history you rarely find. Anyhow the subject invariaby touches on Health Care. His one buddy said that growing old before there was medicare was a disaster. Many old folks lost their homes to the hospitals lawyers when they couldn't pay thier bill...and that's when costs were a lot lower

Re: High Blood Pressure

Mine was 200/150 last year
Only 1 medication for it but it's back to normal now. I do watch the sodium intake, read the labels because stuff that you would not expect to have sodium has tons of it. I drink Snapple Diet or water now no more soda especially diet soda. Potassium in bananas helps also.

If you like chocolate, dark chocolate has less sodium, bread/rolls etc have high sodium also. The recommended amount of sodium is 2000mg a day which is nearly impossible to achieve, some sandwiches have 2000 by themselves

Re: High Blood Pressure

Eating and walking or doing a little cardio is important and is a good thing.
But as we get older things don't work as good as they use too. I have friends who lead a pretty healthy life, doing exercise on a regular base, not being overweight and they been on BP medication for years.

This is just something that's going on within you and not much you can do about it... Some lucky and they don't have any of that and some deal with it.

That said if you know you have high BP you have to take care of it, because no matter how good you feeling and no matter if nothing is bothering you... this is just one of these things that one day it will hit out of nowhere and it is all over.

Re: High Blood Pressure

3 bp meds 2 of them twice a day.
Low sodium diet and I Eat healthy for the most part otherwise.
Gym and cardio 5 days a week
BP is always 120/71 now
Sure all the meds aren't doing my liver any favors.
