Only for very short haul flights. For aviation, electric has one clear advantage: Power density. In other words, high horsepower in a light and small package, with a lot of reserve power.
And one clear disadvantage. Energy density. Cutting edge batteries weigh about 10X as much as fuel for the same amount of energy. Cruising in a DHC2 takes maybe 120KW. About 1500 pounds of battery per hour. Versus 150 pounds of fuel. Lots of rounding above, but the point is we aren't there yet with technology. Advertisement
