Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

All I know is when something real bad happens to me, I'm coming to you bunch of grumpy old ****s because apparently Jesus really likes grouchy old guys who swing hammers.

Most internet prayers get put in the back of the line... CT prayers go straight to the top. Doesn't seem to matter what it is, positive outcomes. I love you guys in a hand shake kinda way.

Well, Jesus was a carpenter. So it stands to say he'd listen to us guys.

Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

Can't believe I missed this entire thread...very emotional indeed and I'm trilled you've made the advancements you have.

In addition, this CT community is genuinely second to none when it comes to support for their members and once again, did not disappoint...great job guys

That's why I don't bicker much anymore...time is just too precious fighting over small potatoes.

Kudos to you Sunkist for gathering the strength needed to fight that dirty word...very impressive the way you held your head high and marched on.

I often wonder whether or not I'd have the intestinal fortitude to take on this type of battle...I guess only time will tell how true that is.

May a higher power be with us all in our time of need and lead us to the light. And, as well, this wonderful CT community.

Cheers everyone! and great job Sunkist...the latest news is indeed, very good news!

Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

Just thought I would move this up.
I found out Monday night my neighbor died from throat cancer.

Our families were neighbors when we were kids growing up and we ended up building our houses right by each other.
He and his brother took over the father's business and it just took off with them running it.
He was only 63, just at the point when you start to really think about taking it easy.

Sunkist, count your blessings and good to know you dodged the bullet.

Thanks Tim I am truly sorry for the loss of your friend cancer does not discriminate good, bad, young, old, rich, poor and what ever race you claim

I just went to see my radiologist today, 1 year ago when I went to see my doc I was there for a soar throat and this deal on my cheek.

Three weeks later I was told I had throat cancer so the deal on my cheek took a back seat so fast forward a year, two weeks ago I had a biopsy on this thing on my check well its cancer, starting next week I will undergo six weeks of radiation this cancer has a name [squamous cell carcinoma], it is not the kind that spreads through out your body its sun related and on my left cheek, so you folks wear a hat and use sun screen in the out doors ( I have worn a straw hat for the last few years).

The doc tells me this will be a walk in the park compared with the last deal, I am just now putting muscle back on my body after a year of lying in bed I turned to jello we will see.

So here are some pics of "DeWalt" aka cuddle bug who left us last year.

Statistics say if you're a male there's a 50% chance you'll get cancer in your lifetime. 40% for women.

Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

I made an apt with the dermatologist a couple weeks ago after reading another thread about skin cancer.
I have two moles that are kind of "weird". Dr. said not to worry, but come back for another look in four months.

He also did a "mapping" of my whole body where he marks all the moles, pigment areas, etc. He said it should be done every year being I work outside all day so they can compare any changes from year to year.

Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

6.45 am May 24th one year anniversary of getting the cancer news its funny how some things stick in your mind there nothing like being told you got a 50/50 chance, today I go for my 11th radiation treatment out of 30 on my check at 800.am so far just a sharp pain once in a while.

So why this post well 1 week before Christmas both my wife and I got that flu that was going around it sent me to the hospital, and I ended up with bronchitis and after meds I got well, but my wife never did.

Long story cut short after doctor visits she ends up in Manatee Memorial Hospital in the cardiac ward for a week, turns out she has AFIB they go in through the groin and take a look in her heart see nothing to worry about, so they stitch her up and stop her heart 11 times over 2 days and zap her with the paddles trying to bring heart back to a normal rhythm does not work, so release her
with 9 different scrips for meds.

So now after 3 months she in down to five meds a day, this brings me to yesterday at 5.30 am Kelley wakes me up she is standing/leaning next to the bed shaking like a leaf have to help her to the bathroom so she can throw up, we get her back too bed and she goes to sleep.

I get up walk the dog make some java and leave for my radiation at 8.00 o'clock finish with that go to work out 5 minutes into the treadmill phone rings its Kelley got to go to the hospital.

By the time we get to the ER my wife is sweating shaking and babeling on making no sense at all, so after a lot of tests blood work scans etc they think she has had some kind of reaction to the meds.

So why we are waiting for a bed in the cardiac ward the doctor tells me they are concerned about blood clots, and they will have her on a drip of blood thinning medicine and fluids great.

The next thing blew me away the doctor asked my wife if she had a living will ?, this is the same woman who did not know what city this hospital is in and who the President is, and then asks her want she wants to do if something happens and after pumping on her chest doe's she want to be kept alive on a machine ?.

Holy crap he then looks at me and asks the same question, I look into my wife's pretty blue eyes and see fear and no under standing, now you want me to tell you what to do, this is the same woman who for the last year worked her butt off to keep me alive and get me through cancer when there were days I did not want to go on, doc beat on her chest pedal a bike to China if you must I am not ready for Kelley to leave.

I speak with my pop every Sunday he is 88 years old and lives in England he was a snow bird for a long time but is to old to travel now and has lost his girlfriend of 30 years to cancer, the last thing I say "I love you and do not go any where" then I hang up and hope till next week I do not get a call, well last night leaving the hospital I held my wife kissed her and told her "do not go any where" we will see what today and the next few days brings.

It's not often I'm at a loss for words but this is one.
I'm not real religious but have seen, just on CT, what the power of prayer can do.
You and your family have mine.
Stay strong.

Re: Got Some Great (formerly Bad) News

Sunkist, this post isn't so much for you as it is for people reading the thread.

I've known people who developed toxicity to cardiac meds. It happens over time, and it can kill you. None of them thought it was really explained to them when they started the medication.

100% of the ones I've known with heart attacks have had memory loss, confusion, and depression, sometimes lasting more than a year. It's a long road for the patient and their support group.
