Randy, I think this will be a great experience for your daughter. Don't let the words of a few worry you. Take the advice of the ones who have been there and have her make contacts with advocates.

My Ex girlfriends best mate is from South Africa and born there. she lived there for 22 years and she had some stories to tell. None of which were very nice to be honest. If i was a woman i wouldn't go anywhere near that place. Secure compound or not.

She didn't deserve it. Not like she went there to get laid or something.
Wrong color of eyes, hair and skin got her killed, giving her friends a ride home to a bad neighborhood.
Hard lesson, I don't understand your logic.

Mavis, you are given a ton of leeway on the forums, though I don't understand why. It is understandable that an (as yet unsubstantiated) accident could change your cognitive abilities. However, some of your posts show a worrying lack of social compassion or heart.

I think it should be noted that Mavis had his accident coming for being on that motorcycle. Why is your misfortune any different Mavis?

The way I look at it, everything in life in dangerious...key is arming yourself with as much knowledge as possible before committing to dangerious activity. I drag raced for yrs, if I dies I would never expect sympathy and knew my family was financially set so they could go on just fine even though i was the bread winner. People that skydive, take a risk of dying each time they jump...when they die, and it may be cold of me, but i just shrug my shoulders and say huh, oh well. they made the choice to put themselves into harms way.

just like traveling abroad, and esspecially into area's where bad things happen with regular occurance...if your dumb enough to go there voluntarily, that's your call, roll the dice and if ya lose...no sweat off my back. Do what makes ya happy...but traveling to third world countries thinking your going to make any sort of difference, that's laughable.

No need to travel abroad. USA has places similar to third world countries.
Look at Detroit, Richmond or N'orleans for example.
Charity begins at home.

Correct. Charity is what lead to their demise in the first place.
Reminds me of that ole saying "give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day; teach a man to fish and he'll eat for a lifetime"

I thought the saying was "Teach a man to fish and he'll never want to work again"

Yeah, I thought it was: Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day, set a man on fire and he'll be warm for the rest of his life.

Re: Going To Africa

I have an uncle and aunt who were missionaries in Ghana, lived there for three years with 4 young children, had another baby born there. Never any problems that I heard of other than some sickness now and then, malaria and such.
