Take SNL or any one of the late shows....compared to what they used to be....just not funny.
A lot of it has to do with age.
SNL has really gone up and down over the years.

Re: Funny Movies

Funny how a long work day causes you to hit the "stress relief button" and you end up watching a mindless comedy to release the stress of the day. For some reason the movies that do it for me are the Vacation movies. Once I start watching one, I have to finish it. Cousin Eddie's quotes get me every time.

Re: Funny Movies

Damn shame that Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks, and John Candy never made a movie together...
But, we do have Richard Pryor and Gene Wilder... Hear No Evil See No Evil is still funny.

Last night my kids requested young Frankenstein and the original Charlie and the chocolate factory (they said the new ones are stupid)

Re: Funny Movies

Speaking of Roal Dahl,

Matilda is hilarious. Not a movie I ever would have watched if it weren't for the kids.

Raising Arizona is Epically Awesome

My girls both loved Matilda. We watched it many times over the years. Try explaining that movie to people who have never seen it, and they will think you are nuts.

Dude was a badass.

This is the first sentence in his Wikipedia entry.

"Roald Dahl was a British novelist, short story writer, poet, screenwriter, and fighter pilot."

How cool is that?

Re: Funny Movies

Just watched one on Netflix.

Bad Seeds.

It was funny and yet poignant.

Ignore the really bad voice over. It would have been better to just leave it in French with subtitles. That said, it will probably move into my top ten.

After Robie's post about Rodney Dangerfield in another thread, reminded me of "Back to School"...

Funny (in the stupid/fun range), but even better having Sam Kinnison and him in the same movie...

Re: Funny Movies

Trying to keep this in the last 10 years or so, in the spirit of the original post...

Idiocracy - Tragically, this one turned out to be a documentary. Hilarious look at life in America 500 years into the future where everyone is a ****ing moron. Infinitely quotable.

Let's Go To Prison - Silly movie that has some hilarious parts and lines that have made their way into my every day vernacular. I say, "I make it in the toilet" weekly at least.

Ballad of Buster Scruggs - Just came out. It's on Netflix. New Cohen Brothers movie featuring 5 or 6 short films. Some hilarious, some poignant, some both. This one is notable because it's the only time I've been able to stomach seeing James Franco since Freaks and Geeks. "First time?"

Absolutely Anything, starring Simon Pegg from Shaun of the Dead, was great.
