Full Military Honors

My father a WWII VET. drove a landing craft dropping off marines on Iwo Jima at age 18.

Was laid to rest today at the navel base in San Diego. He was 92

Beautiful place for a memorial, god bless him and as mentioned above you were lucky to have him around that long, when he was born the average life span was probably less than 60 years, still hurts but a lot less than if he went too early.

Re: Full Military Honors

It is sad as so many of our true heroes are leaving us.

From the stories you've told over the years, I wish I had known him. He sounds like he was a hell of a guy.

Sorry for your loss. I'm sure your family is very proud of his service.
Thanks for sharing your father's story with us. I'm guessing he was about 91? That's a full life by any standard!

Re: Full Military Honors

Mike,

Sorry to hear about your Dad.

Glad to hear he got the respect and honor he deserved.

Did your Dad talk about the war much?

My Dad is also 92, two bronze stars and he will not talk about his experiences.

He's never opened up completely. He said some things about the war that run chills down my spine just hearing it. I can only imagine what it was like living it. That was a bloody battle. Especially for a kid of 18 years old.

Mike.
