Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

It could be anything.

Your life, finance, politics, world...etc.

Personally I think overall it was no better or worse.

International and local they're many issues still left unaddressed

It'll be interesting to see what happens in 2016.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

Businesswise 15 was tons better then 14. For the last 5 years or so I've been struggling. It has been getting worse as the years went on. Last 2 years, at the end of each year I actually asked if I wanted to just pack it in. I pay my rent in full at the beginning of the year and needed to know if I was just going to be wasting my money. Been working paycheck to paycheck the last two years. Actually worse, had to go into my savings to pay for my second bay rent.

This year has been like it use to be. Trying to figure out where I'm going to find the time to get all the work done.

I won't miss 2014. Working for a company that swindles their clients as bad as they did, it's shameful. I hope the $8 million lawsuit the companies dealing with now takes them down.

2015 started on a sour note but it quickly became a great year. I've been discovering a lot of new hobbies, new friends, and greater challenges in my career. It's been fun and it's on track to keep getting better.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

Business wise 2015 was a great year to me, took on some of my biggest projects to date and made some good money doing it.

Didn't get much of any time off though. Other then that 2015 as a whole was a pretty good year.

2016 is shaping up to be a busy one, might be the year I hire a second person and hopefully move to a new house.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

the best question hmmmm

I enjoyed 2014 much better than 2015, ready to put this year behind me, but it's a tie for which was sucked the worst

personally I can't complain much about 2015, I think I took over 7 weeks off combined throughout the year but that didn't help

spent most of the spring of 2014 with my leg glued back together after a ski accident, barely worked 4 hrs a day for over two months and had to be driven from job to job by employees, vividly remember laying on the floor of one job in massive pain (no pain pills till after work was sq'd away) with my folder giving directions to the crew, what a f'n mess

back to 2015, as far as work goes thats where the suck starts, the dollar value was slightly higher, but the jobs were not as profitable, I stepped out of my comfort zone and picked up lots of things I've never really done before hoping to expand my horizons, everything seemed to be a disaster that I touched, I had so much work from sept to now, that it was just chaos then my best guy decided to split town when the snow started flying that didn't help at all

2016 lots of profit, 6-8 weeks off total, no injuries, a new big azz truck, and a new mtb for a bonus in the fall...............

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

Even though we didn't work one single day in February and most of March 2015 was best year since 2008 right before the crash. Did same or similar numbers during housing boom.

Decided to give business a makeover with new logo and a new website. With the addition of home advisor and the continued success with angies list we were able to do about 30%more than 2014. New construction picked up a bit as well.

2016 will start with the purchase of a used Nissan Frontier ( stop laughing) to be used as an additional estimate truck part time to give my f150 a break here and there with mileage.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

We did quite a bit more gross in 2015 than 2014, but net income was down a little. I added another employee in early 2015. I have the work to justify it but it was tough learning to go from 2 in the field to three. Therefore the numbers suffered some.

I think we have everything working smooth now and I expect bigger gross and net numbers in 2016. I just have to sell sell sell.

2015 was amazing for me. It was my first full year of running my own business full time. Built a lot of decks, learned a ton, and made more money than I could have working for someone.

I built a lot of decks, a lot of great clients, and looking forward to next year.

Don't mean to derail, but you are always talking about building decks. Do you market for them specifically? I have certain jobs I would like to do more of instead of doing lots of random type jobs. Just curious how you went about specializing.

Made more money, worked less, lived in a nicer house, GF added a substantial second income after finishing grad school.

2014 was a low bar, but even so 2015 was pretty great.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

2015 was my best work year to date. I have been able to take many days off this December, and am taking a 10 day vacation in January.
Although the economy and construction industry was fierce here in 2014, it was poor year for my business.
I am feeling optimistic about 2016!

Was a very wet winter and dry summer here from what I remember.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

2015 was a better year for me indeed. I learned that I've been leaving too much money on the table and even more importantly, I've learned how to actually get it off the table and into my pocket.

With the prices of TV sets coming down, I find that more people are buying them and they are wanting them installed. Another thing I'm seeing is the definitive line between the cable company and the local phone company starting to get blurred. Nowadays people can switch relatively easily from one to the other by just swapping the cable boxes and the outside connection. Whenever this happens, someone wants another TV installed.

2015 sucked for the first couple months. Then it started to pick up, and didn't stop picking up. I'm probably going to be busy all winter.
2014 wasn't bad. We survived. But that was it.
Hope 2016 is very busy all year.

Re: Do You Think 2015 Was Better Or Worse Than 2014?

Had a hell of a year. Worked like crazy. Buried my dad. Bought a new house. Sold my old house. Worked like crazy. Moved my mom into the new house. Worked like crazy. Thanksgiving. Work. Christmas. Work.

I really don't know what to do different next year. I think my relationship with one of my larger clients may be changing so I may have some growing pains but I think I can weather the storm.
