Re: Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

It's our wedding anniversary. That was a big mistake. Not because we got married, but everything is always booked on that day, so we kick it at home.

Re: Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

My wife better take me to dinner, have some chocolate on the pillow and have a new Martinez 15 oz. titanium for me when I get home.

I dont know why its a male to female thing. Why not a female to male? Hell, shes the lucky one!

God I hope she doesnt see this.

Actually, well go to dinner or bring it in. Then its time to jump into the sack and.

Get some sleep!

Re: Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

Some celebrate it, some don't, and some do things throughout the year, but there's nothing stopping you from doing both...

In my case, I definitely married my better half, so I try to find ways to make it different and special each year, so it doesn't come across as a template with not much though put into it, but at the same time I don't want her to be the one who has to give the "oh, we don't celebrate that" speech each year after hearing other family, friends and co-workers share their memory...

The way I look at it is yes there's the commercial aspect to it (just like with other special holidays), but it's a day of the year where the focus is on the love of your life and there are no rules saying what you have to do or give... traditions maybe...

This year, we're babysitting one of our grandkids on Valentines Days... she didn't even ask me before agreeing to do it; just informed me we were... and she's completely fine with not celebrating this year because of it (if you don't have grandkids, you'll understand one day when you do)... BUT what she doesn't know is that we are...

She has no idea how, when, or what... and hopefully the thought and effort put into it is the memory she'll remember...

I did something two years ago. It was actually special because we normally don't do anything. BTW, it was her idea in the first place not to do something on Valentines day, but I agreed that it was a silly holiday in the first place.

You've got the element of surprise on your side this year to make another special memory...

The best gifts are the ones you give not expecting anything in return...

It can also backfire on you when you agree not to do something and do and they feel like they should have thought of you like you did them.

Come on... you're more creative than that... if that's a concern, just tell her that it's one of your surprise days you talked about... it just happened to fall on Valentines Day (or even better the day before) this year...

Unless she's special on every other day BUT Valentines Day...

Personally I'm not a fan of any hallmark holiday including Christmas. Just don't tell my girlfriend.

I hate the notion of I have to get you something because the calendar said so

Re: Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

Celebrating at home this year with the kids. Not sure how to do anything much different than normal - I cook her breakfast every morning already

Used to take her to the river walk in san Antonio or downtown austin for the night, get a nice hotel suite, Ruth's Chris, Morton's or Trulucks. Or Fredericksburg. Live music, play, whatever she wants

Now i guess we are boring - probably don't go out more than once a month to eat, like our food better, and shed rather take the camper somewhere for the weekend than stay in a hotel and go to resteraunts to eat.

We both pretty much always would rather stay with the kids than go out alone.

Getting old I guess lol

Re: Do You Celebrate Valentine's Day?

One thing I do regularly on valentines/birthday - send Tiffs Treats to my wife's office with 18 roses and a gift card to a lunch resteraunt for 5 people. I send enough cookies and brownies to feed her whole floor....

I do that on her birthday too and generally I will still do something a little more awesome on our anniversary - maybe have lunch catered into her staff. Maybe concert tickets for her and a friend ect...

I am with Rob, it is a silly holiday. I am also in the camp that most women love Valentine's Day and I can tell you right now I have a ****load of allies at her work and no one is showing me up - all her friends and employees are included in the goodies.

I don't think she could convince them that I messed something up at this point. Lmao

It's doing the things she'd never expect from you... even with the things you normally do like making breakfast... make it different than what she's used to...

It's the effort put into it that makes it special...

Everyone's different, but it's been my experience that when women say that something other women are getting is not important to them, they make not be telling the whole truth... they're thinking about it before, the day of, and after... kind of hard not to when others are trading stories about what their other half did for them and how they made it special... may not be as important to them but they're thinking about it...

Just look at this thread... you've got guys who are thinking about it, even though they don't think it's a holiday to celebrate... do you really think she's not?...

Nice thing about you treating her friends at work...
