DIY Interesting Combined Purchases
First of all, yes I know it is none of my business what other people buy from the big box stores. However I do actually get a lot of supplies at the box stores, especially on weekends.
I was checking out today and saw a disaster in the making. A guy with a 500 foot spool of lamp cord and several ten packs of receptacles, switches, etc. Upon further thought I can recall many instances of seeing DIY'ers with combinations of things that you know are going to be hack work. Usually I only notice when standing in line to check out. I recall a guy with a couple cases of silicone caulk and some boxes of floor tile. What other funny combinations have you noticed? |

Re: DIY Interesting Combined Purchases
To the guy with the lamp cord, I re-wired a whole kitchen in Petersburg years ago, stripped it to the studs and every recept was on lamp cord, some clear, some brown, they didn't even have a roll, they just cut it off lamps. Had 2 stack electric wall heaters running on 16 gauge orange extension cords. They had gas for the stove or they would had to tie a couple together. And I went into a rental house trailer and they had the water heater hooked up with automotive heater hoses for hot and cold. Guy had a leak in the old grey crap, that PB stuff, he wanted a bid to fix the leak, I sent him a bid for $2K hoping he wouldn't call back, he didn't.

My favorite is decking and untreated lumber.
Bro, they are just trying to screw you with that overpriced treated lumber:rolleyes: |
Every once in while I'll buy a giant sized box of "large" male contraceptives, two bottles of extra strength Tylenol, and some rope. :001_unsure:
Love to see the other shoppers' expressions. |

Pffffft. Rookie! http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...LooksSafe2.jpg http://i214.photobucket.com/albums/c...LooksSafe1.jpg |
Sure beats taking the stairs...

Man, the ladders some guys climb in other countries are absolutely frightful!
Put me in a bucket truck, no problem. On a ladder more than 2 stories - no way! That's why I'm no roofer or sky scraper builder ! |

Looks great, so glad we didn't pay some over priced CONtractor to do it for us.

maybe the setup wasn't quite tall enough, looks like the bottom of the ladders are setting atop the work bench  |

Could be too. |

I almost threw up just looking at that. |
I like the ones that need extension cords or adapters with two male ends for their Xmas lights

Naah. Workbench is perpendicular to that side of house.... headed towards the truck. It looks like one sawhorse even straddles the silt fence. |
^ yup, you are right. would have been funny (crazy) though. I've put the ladder in the back of the truck a few times to gain a few feet. lol

Some of those photos are unbelievable.
Ive seen some strange combinations. What scares me is when your leaving and seeing a homeowner load their vehicle. One guy was putting a steel cart full of 20x20 tile in the trunk of his car. Ive seen people put a water heater in their trunk, 16' trim hanging on the side of the car. My favorite laugh is when you see people put plywood on the roof, and the driver and passenger have their hands out the window holding it while driving. |
Wow^
|
Kind of can guess where the car with the ladder thru the window & passing the tow truck is headed!
|
PVC + Romex + 2x8's in the cart is a pretty good indicator that something's going to get hacked together.
