Re: Diets

You won't really be able to tell what the diet does for you if you drink alcohol during that 30 days.

You got to give it up to be accurate. I gave it up for 6 weeks completely what I started tracking macros before my training and calorie / macro plan started.

Not that it matters if you're going to drink alcohol anyway after, my deal was just to see if the calories / macros were working the way he thought they would. You're not fat so you don't have to worry about it. LOL

I'm not too worried about weight. I'm in pretty good shape. 6' and hover around 190. I used to be big into lifting weights but haven't done much in a long time.

The main goal isn't to get ripped up or anything it's to kind of shock my body into a state of things I know I can process. I get a messed up digestive system and my back just kills me and sometimes goes full fledged locked up. This is supposed to keep the inflammation down to helpfully make it feel a little better. Doctor didn't seem to think it was a horrible idea. He said after 6 weeks my body will be accustomed to it and to then start adding in other foods.

It'll be interesting because I don't really eat carbs anyhow. So far so good. I will still have a glass of bourbon the ole lady got me and a beer or two here and there and supposedly most think that fine. Wife wanted tacos for dinner and I said... Guess I'm getting ground beef for dinner

Re: Diets

I liked my diving watch better for an every day.

Now I'm kind of hooked to this watch because I can't even tell it's there. I didn't even wear one of my dress watch to the gala we went to the other night. Didn't occur to me.

Re: Diets

Never one for diets. Some time ago my Doctor pointed out i was gaining 3lbs each year and at age 50 i was heavier than i had ever been and could tell.

A little over 6 months ago i decided to try to make positive and permanent changes, i am trying to eat better and a bit less. I do a decent bit of cycling in the warmer months but this past winter i have been trying to be more active in the gym when i can, nothing crazy but at least get some exercise during the winter. As of today i have dropped 20lbs and feel so much better for it.

Pasta once a week.

Just try to keep the carbs to a minimum.

No junk food. No. wasted calories. Sparking water is pretty much the only liquid.

Had 3 beers last night. Not a big drinker anymore.

Tons of fruit to fill me up if I get the munchies.

The diet is part of it. The gym and cardio play a very bigger role I feel.
I知 down 25-30 and honestly the aches and pains I had for many years are all gone. Have never felt better. I do pretty light weight with high reps and 30 min of the elliptical 5- 6 days a week. The real trimming happened when I upped the cardio.

If you're losing weight your body is in ketosis.

Not so sure about that. People who do those diets do a piss test to see if they are in ketosis, I知 woofing down pizza one day and many other things that have enough carbs to keep you out of ketosis I知 sure.

I知 not losing weight. Haven稚 lost a pound in about 6 months. I have no more weight to lose. Went from 38 waste to 34. I知 pretty lean.

Then your not lol.

But anytime your body converts fat stores to energy it's ketosis.

Huh. I always was under the impression you had to not eat carbs to be in ketosis.

Nothing to do with carbs then?

Here's an oversimplification.

Think about it like this, your body has two gas tanks, one is sugar and one is fat. The sugar tank is above the fat tank, so you have to empty the sugar tank before you start running on the fat tank.

Let's say you eat 1000 calories of carbs in a day only, but you burn 1500. You filled the sugar tank and emptied it, then you body dips into the fat tank for the remaining 500 calories, and when it does that your body is in ketosis.

If you eat more than you burn the excess calories go into the fat tank....and make you fat....

What people on "keto" diets are trying to do is run only on the fat tank and keep the sugar tank empty...but here's the kicker, if you eat more calories than you burn on a keto diet you will still get fat. But that being said fats make you feel full, so it's hard to overeat on a keto diet.

Re: Diets

Zero chance those make a road trip with me. I'm notorious for eating people's tomales if I text and they don't holler back pretty soon. I'll be like - I'll have to catch you next time.

There would only be a pan with frosting on it by the time I made it. Maybe no frosting lol

Re: Diets

I used to be able to do low carb 4 days a week and loose an average of a pound or 2 a week. Somehow as I have gotten older I have to do 5 days a week to accomplish that. What I don't like is that it's not a diet I want to stay on so I have gained and lost the same 25 pounds 4 times.

Nope.

That stuff doesn't bother me even though it looks really good. It's probably delicious but a bit sweet for me to "have" to have one.

I'm realizing now how much I like small amounts of carbs with meat along with vegetables. I love burritos, just a bowl now, no rice. That kinda stuff hurts a bit. We ended up going to one of our favorite dives after Church and I got chicken wings and had to ask for no celery... I couldn't believe how much I wanted that celery...

That's foolish, celery is very low carb, and on a low carb diet you're typically counting net carbs which is carbs - fiber. Go ahead and have your celery stick.

The problem I have with low carb is I can't get enough beer and sandwiches. I freaking love em both.

Pretty solid description from my understanding. My thing is I don't care about the weight loss factor. I really don't need to lose weight.

Mine is what the sugars do to you in the process. I won't be on this forever, it's only to figure out what I can eat and get the best benefits. Degenerative discs really suck and if there's certain foods that help that, I'm good. It more about digestion and anti-inflammatory for me.

Rach is saying she's gonna have a husband with a six pack... I laughed and asked her when she plans on divorcing me cause those days are long behind us

It will be interesting though. Today all I've eaten was steak and eggs this morning and chicken wings for dinner. Yesterday was ribeye steak and chicken thighs. Tomorrow morning is hard boiled eggs and bacon in the morning, rest of chicken wings from tonight and maybe some salmon. I've got a decent meal plan but I keep thinking about asparagus , potatoes, corn, green beans, tortillas. It's like getting the best part but missing that little extra that makes it magnificent.
