Benefits Of AARP

Anybody belong, for how long, and think it's prudent? Keep getting bombarded with membership asks, so I was just wondering.

Haven't really seen any exclusive benefit to them that I can't get anywhere else... haven't looked into it recently though...

Sorry but that organization is a little bit too liberal for me!

If you think you are being bombarded with stuff now, just join. It never stops.

My wife signed us up when she turned 50. The discounts aren't worth their politics.

Took several years to get mostly off their mailing list

Re: Benefits Of AARP

it claims to be helping the retired .they have definitely pushed initiatives that help/support older retired people . are those liberal initives ?

i use there phone service.i am not a real cell phone guy , it has been a great phone service for me .all the other things they offer i do not really use .

google and see what they try to accomplish and see if it meshes with your thinking .

Re: Benefits Of AARP

It was like $13 a year for me and the wife to join. They give out coupons for motels and food. Basically get your $13 if you stay at a motel for one night. Just throw the extra mail away.

Surprised you'd be a member considering how far on the left they are.

My dad joined to buy gap coverage through one of their affiliates, to help with coverage of Medicare. Don't know if the discount he got is one that could not be obtained elsewhere.

AARP donates heavily to Democrats.

AARP supports full gun control.

AARP supports abortion.....

Just a few issues.

AMAC - The Association of Mature American Citizens, is the better choice, IMO.

Opposition to Voter ID
“We believe that Congress has approved a simple, uniform procedure to register to vote in federal elections and that requiring additional proof of citizenship is unnecessary and impedes the ability of voters to vote, especially voters who are older and/or disabled and may not have access to the required documents,” - AARP, opposing a Kansas voter ID law [15]

Re: Benefits Of AARP

I pay $13/yr for two people and I take over $120 from them in coupons. Net loss.

Re: Benefits Of AARP

But that is still supporting the AARP.

Forgot another big negative: They are one of the more powerful lobbyist groups in DC, and you can bet they are not lobbying for conservative interests.

Re: Benefits Of AARP

My wife signed us up once. I would not pay for it again the next year and she dogged me from time to time. Now with her dementia I never hear about it anymore. At least there is some good with the bad.
