Wild pigs belong in the smoker and not in the groves. So that's where they end up if they're small enough... Loins covered in a spicy mustard sauce. Cayenne, cracked peppercorns, light salt. Smoked with cherry for 2 hours and rub and bacon added for another hour. Save yourself the trouble of doing dishes... Just slice and eat.

nope, trap or dogs. With dogs I wouldn't eat the meat unless the pig was put in a cage for awhile.

In truth, I don't do much of the hunting. My brother-in-law does, I'm better at the eating part.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

When there is a group together I shoot one of the babies first, smaller the better. Then the sow (mama). The little ones are the ones that are edible.

Over 30 lbs I just cut their belly open and leave them where they lay for the buzzards, unless a buddies mom needs one for Tomales. I haven't seen my buddy since high school until recently but I see his mom all the time..... I like me some tomales.

Unreal how much damage they can do in one night.

I try to shoot nonpregnant sows between 120 and 150 pounds live lb.
The little ones real tasty plus I would leave the guts for the buzzards

Gotta be something about the chase that makes them absolutely inedible.

Overall horrible animals, they destroy a 50 acre grove in about 2 days. Sod farms, forget about it. Got some crazy stories about some giant boars and believe it or not, even bigger bars. Biggest yet ran around at, we estimated 550lbs. Cutters about 4" long. Nasty animal.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

That's crazy. They're not really up here yet. A few areas in the state have em I think, but I've never seen one.

There's a hog farm bordering the place I hunt. It took my a while to figure out what it was. I crested a hill one morning and heard this god awful squeak echo through the valley I was in. Scared the piss out of me.

Yep. I trapped and shot them off my new property. If no one wants them after they are trapped I shoot em and let the varmints get them. Especially sows, if they are pregnant just saves the work of shooting the offspring later. 90% of the time someone wants them and i will cut them up for them. Regardless they are a plague on Texas.

Only place I like to see hogs is at the deer lease.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

Gotta find a fat chicken with BIG breasts. Rub your favorite spice on all 4 sides.

Slice breasts in half. Sandwich in spinach leaves, garlic, parmesean cheese.

Grill till breasts hit 155 degrees.

Very moist, I love em.

Bride is coming home for lunch. Had I done this 30 years ago occasionally, I'd have had 8 kids instead of two.

She likes that I'm cooking.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

I had 20+ to feed Sunday. I felt comfort food theme would be appropriate for this group, so I went with:

Pot Roast
Chicken Pot Pie
Mac and Cheese 2 ways
"Regular" with Gruyere and Gouda & kicked up with Cajun shrimp bacon and fried shallots.

Roasted new potatoes and crimini mushrooms.
Roasted baby carrots and sweet potatoes with balsamic honey and cayenne

Wife made Bruschetta 2 ways, prosciutto wrapped asparagus and salad.

Along with cheese and crackers and smoked salmon.

I was too busy to get pictures, but the crowd seemed to like it.
