Definitely doing something wrong as they can be quite tasty. I had some at a wild game dinner, in gumbo and it was good. SNL shot some at the coast and grilled them, even better.

I've had them good a few times. There is just a degree or 2 between raw and boot leather, at least in my experience.

Tried it grilled, fried, stew, with mushroom soup over rice, and breasted out and wrapped with bacon. Never mastered the touch.

I just ate venison stew, so good I had 2 bowls. That axis meat makes better stew than beef imo. I made some once with both so I could taste the meat side by side, no comparison. The wife is eating hers now.

You're right about the duck (any wild game) grilled, it has to be real close to raw or it gets tough.

They piss me off. I see herds of a couple hundred right down the road from my place. More axis roadkill around here than whitetail.

When I was building the place my daughter lived just down the street. The grand daughters would play in the woods over on my property all the time. One day 2nd oldest told me she saw the polka dotted king of the forest over here, but I've yet to see one.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

he wanted to know what he could bring....

i told him bring some of that GOOD french bread & i'll make garlic bread.

he had a loaf of safeway french bread, it was very good, but i told him i wanted the little round one from the bakery.....

i thought he was going to cry....but he does know me & sucked it up....

bread was actually pretty good, fed him some liquid courage and he went home at 6am......

Re: Any Of You Cook?

After a hard days work in the garden I needed something substantial for dinner. Grilled 4 south Texas ribeyes thinking I'd eat 3 and the wife one, turns out I could only down 2. Most of the veggies came out of the garden, store bought tater only I think.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

went to one of our favorite restaurants tonight.

modern, creative, artistic, italian....awesome!!!!!!!!!!

i ALWAYS flip the chef & owner some chit on the way out....

usually, hey pretty decent fast food.....

so we order tonight.

dinner served to my wife & our friend.

then the owner/chef brings me a double quarter pounder, fries & a side of marinara....

all the staff were watching and everyone busted out laughing so hard it was hilarious.....

our waitress & hostess, both have been there 8-9 years could not believe he did that, total surprise....

evidently when he saw me walk in he sent a bus boy to micky d's.....

a few moments later he brought me my dinner & wanted to make sure it was ok fast food....

awesome meals.....
