Re: Any Of You Cook?

Glad to hear that. Only works sometime for me. Other times the shell pulls off egg.

I've seen where they had egg peeling contests. They cook the eggs and put them in a bucket of water, dozens of them. And the contestants peel them like the shells just fall off of them. That's what I'm looking for.

There's plenty of humane ways to kill an animal for food. And most importantly raise it humanly while it's living.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

Fresh eggs are hard to peel . After you boil them, crack the shells and put them in ice water for 15-20 minutes .

When we had chickens , the eggs would never peel , even when they were 1-2weeks old . The wife asked some of the older ladies what to do , and found out about the ice water method .

Makes you wonder about store bought eggs , never seem to have a problem with them .

I've had the worse time with my chicken's hard boiled eggs. Always just put them cold water out of the faucet. I'll give the ice water a try.

Try running cold water over them as you peel them.

I do dunk them, but they're not ice cold when I peel them.

Re: Any Of You Cook?

I read somewhere that a little bit of baking soda in the water will let the eggs peel easier.

I tried it, seems to work. Maybe I've just been lucky with old eggs.

I absolutely am.

My point is saying veal is inhumane by it's very nature is painting with a broad brush. You can definitely have veal that is humanely raised.

Some of the places in the Midwest and what they do with cows is not good. People as starting to pay attention though and it's starting to change. Here our animals have to graze, they cannot be barn kept (unless you plan to buy feed and hey all the time which would be outrageously expensive). The places we sell them to do not have cattle crowds where 300 animals are put into a 2000 sq ft barn and force fed. They have spaces for movement.

My point is many of the smaller operations are very aware humanely raising food and so-so. One reason is because they can't afford the massive machinery that the big guys have and second because they actually love their job and the products for consumption they provide. It's more expensive, but worth it to me to buy the more expensive, small operations - more humanely raised products.

I gave her the benefit of the doubt and am assuming the bacon entered at some point.
