Any Ideas Where To Look For Apartments In Ny

Hey guys I have a friend who is about to move to NY and he is looking for apartments. Anyone have any contacts or links to help him out? I couldn't think of much more than craigslist which didn't turn up much.

Thanks guys

Ohhh, the city. Better tell him to just stay home.

On a side note, NY is the state. NYC is the city.

what kind of scene is he into? I lived in brooklyn heights for a while. 5 min walk to the brooklyn bridge, quick subway ride into lower manhattan. Decent night life. Parking sucks.

If he wants Brooklyn, let me know, a Vacancy might be coming up in Bensonhurst, close to the city and Staten Island.

I thought New York is where you look for apartments in the Obituary section of the newspaper

I was refering to finding vacacies. I understand they have a special "Rent Control" program that artificialy keeps rent down.

Hard to find one, unless you know someone and they get you in, and even then, you need to walk with a walker before someone files a complaint. You be better of getting a place in a nice private multi family house.

There are tons of empty apartments in NYC right now.

I know some people in high end real estate if he's loaded.

Re: Any Ideas Where To Look For Apartments In Ny

Is your friend in the area already?

All my good apartments I found by pounding the pavement. Craigslist is a good place to start, and I've definitely found places on CL before that were great, but really you just gotta hit the streets and call every single for rent sign you see. There's a lot of older property owners/landlords that aren't hip to the information superhighway and have no idea how to list their awesome properties for rent. Those are the places you want.

Just by the by, tell your man to skip the hassle of NYC and settle down in Jersey City, the best little city around! hah
