Kinda a construction-industry-specific thing, and not annoying really, but I've never understood why people say "PULLING permits." I always say "GETTING permits." "Pulling" makes it sound like building permits issue forth from rest room paper towel dispensers (if only it were so easy!)

And besides "pulling," in the context of any other kind of documentation I can think of, means LOSING that document, not GETTING it. E.g. if you told your friend that your driver's license got "pulled"...well the meaning is obvious.
