No sales tax in DE. I do a lot of business with them also.

They will feel the pain.

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

There ain't no federal sales tax so no i shouldn't have been paying it all along. shame amazon opened 2 centers in Richmond as they prob would have told our state to shove it. our sales tax is low though but its the principle. I don't want the government forcing me to spend my money local. If the service is good then I will already do that.

They've been charging Calif. tax for about 6 mos. now. It's only a matter of time before they charge tax for all states that have a tax.

I pretty much guarantee that your state has a State Use Tax or something similar by a different name. When you buy something out of state, anything, you are suppose to pay your state sales tax on it. If you buy a car out of state you'll pay the tax in that state. And then when you go to register it in your state guess what? You pay the sales tax on it.

When I buy stuff for my business on the internet I make sure at the end of the year I pay the Use tax. It's a small price to pay to keep theme off your azz and out of your books.

Amazon is trying to get a warehouse in each and every state. When an internet company has a physical presence in your state then you pay sales tax. It's always been that way.

The reason Amazon want to get in every state is for the quick distribution. They are looking to do next day delivery on everything with standard shipping.

Leo, last week I read they want same day delivery soon. I wonder how that will work since UPS and FEDEX load their trucks in the early morning. Maybe same day is within 24 hrs. In NJ they started collecting tax in July.

Roanoke must be late on their news, this has been on the radar for a year or more. Friend told me Amazon has a switching station in northern Va. for their online orders that uses a million dollars plus a month in power. A full time power co. electricity nerd works their full time

I didn't know nothing about it until yesterday when I was gonna order some more stuff and at checkout there is now tax added. I heard they are pulling out of some states now because of it.

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

Usually I find that things are still cheaper online with shipping and tax than if you went to the local store and bought it. And if you include fuel to travel then it really is cheaper.

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

I don't mind paying more local if I can get it that day and they have good customer service. Woodcraft as an example. I have never bought a festool tool or any tool I could have got from them online. but best buy as the other example. I don't want to pay more when they don't know anything about what they are selling and have nothing decent in stock. government want to make it fair for local retailers by baking amazon charge local tax but I may not want to shop local!

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

I saw something on the same day delivery services. Google is testing it out, getting ready to make a run at Amazon. They have a fleet of economy cars and litteraly drive to a store, pick up the item and deliver it. I think it's priced at $ 5 per item.

If they did open up an office here, and ship to me here in the same state, it would be a whopping 6 bucks added to every hundred. I think I can absorb it.

What I wish they could back off is the shipping fees. I often pay more in shipping than the product costs.

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

Don't Walmart already do something like this where customers who shop there get paid to drop of a parcel on there way home for people who order on line. Some places in England already do this but they deliver same day them self. You order all the stuff online and within about 5hrs its at your door.

But get this. It's also free from most places if you spend over $50-$100.

I normally spend about $1-2k each and every month on amazon. Last month was about $2300 so Them new tax charges would soon add up and would then be no cheaper than most places around here. But I would be stuck with buying from the places around here that suck balls.

Your news stations have let you down in Roanoke. Guess they stay on top of all the local square dancing and corn harvest.

Re: Amazon Now Charging Sales Tax To VA

I shop on Amazon a lot because there is little to no availability where I live.

The tax-free part was a nice bonus, but in the end, I just see it as paying my fair share.

I use my Cabela's card, so every dollar I spend earns me 3% towards free gear.......just gotta game the system another way.
