Absurd Sports Stats.

I just heard two absolutely ridiculous sports stats.

1. Greg Maddux has more career wins than 3-0 counts on batters.

2. Larry Fitzgerald has more tackles than dropped passes.

What!?

Am I the only one who laments him, the Crime Dog and Kirby (RIP Mr Puckett)? What happened to ball players like this?

Anyone remember that Cubs team with Greg Maddox that had Marked Grace and Ryne Sandberg too? That team had to have had the best 1,3,4 infield ever, right?

Sorry Easy. Just thinking about the days of Sid Gill sliding into home or Terry Pendleton being the fastest slow guy ever.

Here's one.

Tom Brady has as many playoff wins as Peyton Manning and Terry Bradshaw... Combined...

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

I have to preface this with how much I hate the Yankees. I hate them.

But Mariano Rivera has a .7 era in 141 innings pitched in the post season.

Out of 16 entire games worth of innings pitched in the postseason... He's given up less then 12 runs... That's sick... I hated that guy but shouldn't he be in the conversation of best pitcher ever?

Not just best closer but best pitcher?

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

Hereís two random sports factoids that seem crazy to me.

1. During his career, Nolan Ryan both pitched to Mickey Mantle, and had Pudge Rodriguez as his catcher. Mickey Mantle and Pudge seem so far removed from each other in my baseball head that that seems impossible.

2. Dirk Nowitzki was drafted into the NBA (and immediately traded to the Mavericks) the year before Luka Doncic (current rookie sensation for the Mavericks) was born, now they are currently playing together for the Mavericks.

I heard today that in over three hundred and some-odd games only 7Xs has a Bill Belichick defense allowed over 40 points.
Three of those we're against Andy Reid and one time from a protege of his.

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

Nolan Ryan has many here's a few

Ryan is the all-time leader in no-hitters with seven, three more than any other pitcher. He is tied with Bob Feller for the most one-hitters, with 12. Ryan also pitched 18 two-hitters. Despite the seven no-hitters, he never won a perfect game, nor did he ever win a Cy Young Award. Ryan is one of only 29 players in baseball history to have appeared in Major League baseball games in four decades and the only MLB pitcher to strike out seven pairs of fathers and sons.

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

That last one is perfect.

Just yesterday I saw somebody post the Griffey Sr/Jr back to back HR vid. So cool!

Back to my man Mo...

In 1998 his win/loss % was 1.000.

I'm having a hard time locating the numbers on my favorite stat, but I'll take a stab at it and it'll be close:
In 1996, the Yankees took a lead into the 7th inning 60 times. They won 57 of those games.

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

Was Mo a starter in 96.

Me & a buddy got a Wednesday night game package for about 10 years. It was a 7 inning game most of the time.

I absolutely loved those days

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

Mo tried starting in 95, then was set up man for Wetteland in 96. He usually pitched 7th/8th. Believe it or not, he didn't even learn the cutter until 97. So, he was already one of the most dominant relievers in the game, then became THE most dominant reliever in the game.

I was lucky enough to have patient uncles and friends' parents who would take a horde of 10 year olds into the city to catch games in the early 90s. I got to see game in the build up years in 93-95, then of course when the bubble finally popped in 96. So cool.
I've been at some really fun games. Got to see Mattingly, Roberto Kelly turn into Paul O'Neil, Jeter's whole career. Same with Rivera, Andy, and Jorge.
A friend of mine had a weird job delivering turkeys for the holidays for some place and one time he was up in Bergen County. Pulled into this nice place and Jorge answered the door! He said he lost his **** and yelled, "Yeeeeeeeeeah!" at him. He laughed and gave him a high five. Probably used to that.

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

Obviously I am a bit older than you but loved Mattingly. He and Winfield....in those days after the strike the Yankees sucked and tickets were cheap. Real cheap

Bernie came up and was a huge part of their success. Just as much as the "core four".

He never got due credit or send off.

Great times inmt 20's & 30's. I was at the playoffs game in 95 against the Indians. Aaron Boones big game.... I was at the Bloody sock game for Curt Schilling too.....so many. Hard to believe it's almost a decade since winning a world series. I hope the Yankees stay patient. So much young talent

Re: Absurd Sports Stats.

They're loaded right now!

They had a legit shot the last two seasons, even when they really had no business having a shot experience wise.

Man, I loved Bernie! He was the coolest. Played guitar, nicest guy, seemed like he always batted well when you wanted him to.

Damn, being at the Aaron Boone game must have been incredible!

Outfielders with a cannon nobody wanted to run on were always impressive to me. I could run down a fly ball but had a weak arm...I always wished I could throw a rocket 300+ ft.
