It's easier, faster and cheaper to buy on the street. That can happen anywhere. DC has the toughest laws in the country and they haven't slowed down the murder rate at all, if anything it makes law-abiding citizens easy pickin's.

I'm waiting to hear more about the shooter. Drugs? Alcohol? Mental problems?

Ya know whats interesting .....you don't see this crap happening in ghetto schools ......no, no ...hear me out ......what you see is 3, 4 maybe 5 people shot because everyone runs off ......and that's because most are armed and sticking around will create a scene from Braveheart.

Maybe things really were better back on the Bonanza.

You can always buy a gun from another gun owner with no paperwork. Its not hard and thats how we did it before being 21. Of course we just shot at the range so.

waiting period is a state law, but everything else is federal.

I guess the guy was 23, so I was wrong on my guess.

when LA enacted a waiting period, it didn't make much change at all. waiting periods have a bad side as well- a woman (or anyone else for that matter) that knows that they have a stalker or someone looking to do them harm have to wait five days in order to have a firearm to protect themselves with. Waiting periods were designed to stop an enraged person from going to the gun shop and buying a gun to do harm with. personally I don't see where the waiting period is going to help- I doubt that many people would leave, drop $500+ on a gun, come back, and do their deed, I'm willing to bet most locos like that would go for the first thing that they saw that will do damage- kitchen knife, baseball bat, ect. if they plan enough to buy a gun, then I doubt a five day waiting period is going to do much.

what we can do it enforce the laws against straw buyers- where most criminals get their guns.

good point- look at england- they banned all guns except some shotguns, and rifles with proper licencing, yet since the ban, violent crime has gone up. England used to be famous for it's cops that didn't need to carry guns, now they dress in full swat gear, and carry pistols, if not submachine guns. Since the ban, the black market for guns has exploded, including people that smuggle illegal guns in and sneak onto army bases to steal military weapons, and while they are at it, why import or steal pistols when automatic assualt rifles and machine guns are just as easy?

Not surprising in the least bit how these stories are happening with more frequency. My cynical side says life just sucks and it's only gonna get worse. I'm glad I'm holed up where I'm at with enough ammo to fend people off! And if not, my neighbor can sure help too!

Many, many Mainers have rifles, pistols, etc. I remember high school, we all used to bring our rifles to school so we could go hunting afterwards. That was '85, not too long ago. We used to pull them out in the parking lot, aim up in the air....

I know what you mean- guns in the vehicals were only banned in Montana like eight years ago. and even then, if you had your gun, you just had to park off school grounds.

Re: 33 Students Killed A V-Tech!!

I believe the guy bought the guns totally legally and I was under the impression that they had a waiting period. I thought that you couldn't have any mental issues and since he had been committed to a mental institution it should have disqualified him. Of course he would have probably got one or two on the streets.

I don't know if having everybody carrying is such a good idea a college crowd though. Too many hangovers and partying makes for a bad combo and a serious shortage of thinking first. Also how many would be qualified to shoot. Would dare say that most that have CC only shoot enough for the license. In many ways in a small area like a classroom getting a few people trying to shoot could just as easily end up with a lot of dead and wounded from crossfire or bullets through the walls. I would think that maybe having the teachers that wanted to be able to carry would be a decent first step and also do you need a license for a taser?

I had been under the impression that England always had strict gun laws, but guess the new laws changed things. However when I looked into it a little I found this site that explains a little about why the crime increased went up as far as the statistics. Since though it is from a anti-gun site I would have to be skeptical of his facts, but I would wonder if there isn't more truth to it than what is being reported now.

There has been so much focus on the killer and how it gives the asian community a black eye. More focus on the victims, less on the dispicable perp.
