How Do YOU Find Good Employees?

How do YOU find good employees?-goodemployees.jpg

If youíre a contractor, an important part of running a business is making sure you can find, hire and retain good employees. For the construction industry in particular, there is sometimes a perception among potential employees that these workers are menial laborers digging holes with shovels. Effectively recruiting good workers means not only ensuring you find the right candidates, but also improving the chance that the potential employee will see the work you are offering as something they really want. 1. poach employees from other company's.
2. hire from a Labor ready service for dumb dumb grunt work
3. and my favorite hire a hustler working at a junk job like the lumber yard or mcdonalds. Then mold them into the perfect employee

Re: How Do YOU Find Good Employees?

Iím a one man show.

I have a buddy who is trying to be a briefcase homebuilder.

He recently met a freshly licensed contractor who knows nothing except pavers and concrete sealing.

We share the new guy as a laborer. He carries license, insurance, and bond.

He gets a day or two a week with me and several days with the home builder.

- Before anyone has a fit, he is an independent contractor who works for at least two customers per year. We direct him because he doesnít know anything, but heís not an employee. He earns a (relatively) great wage, learns things every day, and supplies us with much needed help without either of us having the burden of an employee.Win/win/win.

Over 40 years I can count on one hand the people I'd want working for me, so if I knew how to find them it would be a well kept secret.
