Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

I don't have a portfolio. I'm all word of mouth, most have already seen my work.

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

I'm also 100% word of mouth; haven't needed a portfolio.

But I do have pictures from every major project (and quite a few minor ones). They come in handy when brainstorming, or just to clarify solutions/designs I'm proposing.

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

If by “portfolio” you mean a bunch of marginal to poor quality, random, incomplete photos, kept it an astonishingly disorganized fashion on my MacBook....

Yes....I have a portfolio.

When I get slow, I’ll get them all tidied up in a nice place.
(Like the website I own but never built.)

((My favorite thing is flipping through photos on my MacBook for a client, trying to avoid the land mines.
Lots of stealthy body positioning....))

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

not really
I'm horrible at remembering to take pictures

hardly ever remember to get a good before pic

I have lots of progress pictures and a few when we are done!

most of my calls are referred from past clients

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

many people i worked for did not want any pictures taken.

it was understood from the start.

i was hired by many of these people because i had the ability not to gossip and keep my mouth shut about them & their jobs.

unbelievable what you can hear & see when you are around these characters for awhile....

some of them you really didn't want to know much about...

Same here but I do have a sh*tload of pics I never use and would be a real stretch to call it portfolio.

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

I don't have a proper portfolio, but I consider my business FB page and my Instagram account to be decent representations of what I can do.
Mind you, on the IG account there's quite a few more personal images than there should be... But I rack those up as "character definition".

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

I've always taken the time to try to take decent pictures of all my projects, usually on the day they're finished. And nearly all of them (nearly 800 to date) are posted on Houzz - that is my "portfolio." Having all these pix online comes in very handy when I'm meeting with potential clients - I bring an iPad to show them. https://www.houzz.com/pro/johnbh11/home-reborn

Yes I do have a portfolio, these photos represent about 15% of the homes I've built over the years.

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

So now I don't feel so badly about this....seems most everyone else is in the same boat...
...I sometimes think about needing to organize my pics better. As electronic portfolio...but usually I'm driving around between projects or getting supplies....so can't do much then...maybe someday

I have a line item in my contract that I can use photos for promotional purposes and brainstorming with future clients. I'll gladly take it out if someone asks.

Re: Do You Have A Portfolio?

Yes I do I bought the album from Duluth Trading years ago, I call it a brag book it shows before, during, and after pics, each page is set up to show the start and finish of a job.

I must admit now with a smart phone I do not keep up with it so most of my pics are in the cloud, but I do miss a photo album so much easier to find pics and show a customer work performed.
