Windows 8.1 Copy Cancelled... Now Hung Up.

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE POST BEFORE RESPONDING.

A few weeks ago, I started to copy a bunch of files from one directory to another. 9% of the way through, I realized I was copying them to the wrong directory. So I cancelled the copy and started over.

When I was done, I started to get error messages in other apps concerning the file that was being copied by Win 8.1 when I cancelled. And it seems my file manager hasn't gotten the memo that it's been cancelled.

Today, I started to copy 308gb from one drive to another, and noticed this 'problem child' file (actually a .JPG image), keeps showing up in the process of canceling when I copy or transfer other files. Clicking on the 'x' does no good.

Please do not suggest another transfer app. That will not fix this problem.... only possibly prevent it from happening in the future. I need a way to tell Win 8.1 that this copy has been cancelled and it can be ignored.

Copy that file completely so it can complete. Maybe that'll get rid of the error message.

That is a 3rd party application, yes? Like RoboCopy?

If so, its not a windows problem, it's gonna be specific to that app.

Programs can keep a log of operations in progress.

That log file can be stored in Registry, the program's own installation directory, or in places like:

C:\Users\480sparky\AppData\Local\Temp
C:\Users\480sparky\AppData\Roaming\your program

...and several other directories that a normal user (one that doesn't have Admin or SYSTEM privileges) does not see, because those directories are kept hidden by the Windows OS.

Comes back as unreadable: corrupt or damaged.

Ah, so that's what Explorer looks like in Windows 8...

Anyway, then there's 2 things I do.

First off, I'd run chkdsk on the drive causing the issue. Could be a bit got turned off in the NTFS stream.

Once that's done, I'd open regedit with admin privileges and do a search right from the beginning of the registry, and search for the EXACT file name.

It's gonna turn up in one or more MRU lists.
