Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

As my computer went down, might as well upgrade all the way around.

I have an Epson Workforce 7510 that has been. Spain since I got it. Everytime I need to print something, it needs the heads cleaned. Even if I printed something just a few days ago.

It scans fine, so a stand alone printer is all I need. Unless there is an all on one that also prints really good pictures. I was in the market for a photo printer, so a midrange photo printer that will print contracts as well.

Unless there is a cheapish printer to just print contracts and such.

Open to any suggestions.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

The problem with inkjet printers, is, unless you use them fairly regularly, like 3-4 times a week, the ink containers and the jets on top of them, tend to clog and then you have to go through all the head cleaning, etc. to see if you can get them working again.

Since i have no use for color, I bought a laser B & W Brother printer, $58 with an extra toner cartridge for $28. Black and white only. Lasers use a toner cartridge, a dry powder--no liquid ink to dry out. They do make color laser printers, but are a bit more $$

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

Inkjets have come a long way from the time they clogged if you didn't use them daily. These days, they're pretty good for intermittent use, and they use quite a bit less energy than a laser.

Laser printers also have a minimum duty cycle (something most folks don't realize unless they read the fine print). So just going laser doesn't guarantee a lack of problems if you don't print often.

These days, the reliability line is fairly fuzzy. I'd base a new purchase on the anticipated cost of consumables in conjunction with the actual purchase price.

Yes, laser is amazing if you only print in black. I had one for 12 years. Perfect print whether it had been 10 seconds or 3 months since the last use.

Colour laser can be expensive if your printing in small quantities. If doing huge volumes I always suggest leasing and having the toner included.

I have had great luck with HP and Samsung printers for small desktop printers.

For Bigger MFP units canon is my go to.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

In my experience I'm done with inkjet.
I use black and white laser.
Brother printers have been work horses for me..
if I need any color stuff I just print it off at staples.
I am tempted to get color laser in the future.

With some of the low end inlets, the routine head cleaning can mean you're going through cartridges way too fast.

I bought a cheap little HP 4512 that copies, prints and scans for under $150.
It's a real nice machine.

I got a color laser about 3 years ago for $100. It is amazing the difference. Prints fast, toner is cheaper than ink, and nary an issue in 3 years.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

I have also been in the market for a new printer. My laser printer has started giving me a drum warning. Since the cost of a drum is as much as a new printer, I'll just get a new printer.

Currently I have a Brother laser printer. 6 years old. About $100 new. Large toner cartridges are about $70. Doesn't matter, they last a long time. Very long.

I'm going to get another Brother laser printer. I may step up to one that also does copies.
So, the one I have, is comparable to HL - L2395W. Goes on sale for about $100, every other week (or so) at Staples.
I will probably go with Brother MFC-2710DW. This one will scan and make copies.

Since my copier is older than the printer, it might be a good investment.

I thought about a color laser printer. It would be great, but the investment in toner is quite a bit. About $100 per color. So, I would have $400 in toner only.

Those toner prices are baffling to me. I have a Dell color laser printer. I buy toner about once or twice a year. Via ebay, I get it for about $20/set. This gives me all 3 colors and black. Probably get a couple hundred pages per set.

Since I don't have a color laser printer, I'm not sure how many pages they print.

With my black toner, I have now, I get at least 2500 pages from the larger cartridge. I only buy the big ones. Right now they are $54. They've gone down. I remember when they were $85. The smaller cartridges are $39.

Those color cartridge prices may not have been for the Brother. That price is right, for that printer though. I don't know the brand.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

I print thousands and thousands of pages every month and tried every brand printer. The best and least expensive printer is a Brother with a toner cartridge. I think I get about 20,000+ pages per cartridges and you can get re-manufactured cartridges and drums on ebay for less than $24.

Had nothing but problems with several models of HP and Epson.

My favorite printer is the Brother 5240 and I buy them used on Ebay for less than $100 and they last forever. The only reason I buy several of them is because when I do direct mail campaigns I sometimes have 7 printers running at the same time. This many printers is impossible to run on one computer. So, I purchase used HP computers on Ebay for as little as $30 and monitors for $30 and they work great.

I would never ever use an ink jet printer for anything that is printed only in black. For color prints that I use for advertising campaigns the best printer is the Epson Eco 4570 printer. No cartridges. You fill ink the tanks with a bottle and you get thousands of prints without having to change a cartridge.

The best place to buy printers is at Best Buy and get the extended warranty. That way, you never have to worry about a clogged print head. As soon as I have a problem my secretary brings the printer to Best Buy and we get a new one with absolutely no questions. No other store will replace a printer so easily.

Have an HP OfficeJetPro 7740 Wide Format Printer... You can print drawings on Tabloid Size paper which is very helpful when needed.
No issues what so ever.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

one big plus to laser vs ink is the writing not washing off the paper. if it gets wet from the rain you won't be able to read anything with the bleeding and its toast.
Might not be a big deal depending on your area. But here in Vancouver it rains most of the year and lets me use the papers in elements when do site walk arounds in the rain.

Re: Need A Suggestion For A New Printer.

I really like the Brother HL-L2370

Cheap to but and print. I good workhouse.

The other thing that is a must for me. That I could not find on most other printers.
Is a simple fast way to print just one envelope.
Has a slot in the front to feed in a single blank envelope.
No messing with removing paper or anything
