I'm Making Smartphone Apps For Contractors.

I will be developing apps specifically designed for contractors in the field. I haven't even really checked to see what's already out there, but I'm guessing not very much.

My question to you guys is:

What kind of features would you like to see in an app?

Example:
Quick References to HUD/FHA Guidelines.
Contractor Dictionary.
Coupons for Home Depot and other stores.
Coupons for Taco Bell and other junk food.

This will begin on the Android system and might be specific to Property Preservation, but feel free to share ANY ideas.

App to look up any code, phone uses GPS to tell what local jurisdiction you are in and gives you the option to overide and pick a location.

Coupons to Taco Bell? F-that. That's the mentality that makes 99.9999999999999% of all aps available worthless to anybody.

Make a REAL construction calculator for us on Android. I can't believe CI has not ported the CMIV iPhone app to Android yet.

What platform are you making these for? iPads? iPhones? Androids? Blackberries? You can probably make a much nicer Construction Master app on a pad instead of a phone.

Yeah, the coupons to Taco Bell would be a real waste. I prefer Taco Johns!

I like the calculator idea, I may look in to this further.

Taco Bell coupons was a joke, since a lot of field workers just grab fast food. :P

Android 2.2, as that's all I have at the moment. :P

Willy,

While nothing is stopping you from creating one, just so you know there is already one in the works. It's being written based off an iPhone version which is pretty incredible. You'd have to work your ass off to beat the features.

It's in development now.

I completely understand. I'm not looking to make money or compete with current apps, I just want to create useful tools. I mentioned property preservation as I have not yet seen any useful apps for that field.

A work order management system, for example. I know my subs would love that.

Re: I'm Making Smartphone Apps For Contractors.

Make one for RRP data to be entered by the job and each job you can take a picture and store photos assigned to that job. There are other companies out there with iphone apps for RRP type work for the lead law that just came out in april but nothing I can find for Android based phones like I have and many others do.

I don't need a construction calculator, I have a real one that I use when I need it. much better with real buttons than a smart phone would be. mine has a cover for the pad and I wouldn't want to destroy my droidx by trying to use it directly on the jobsite in all the dirty conditions we work.
