Flash Drives

So these things are terrible. I don't know if the contacts wear out and can be bent back but they lose connection.

I just bought a newer one with higher capacity so if I regain contact I can transfer it but I can't.

Any tricks?

Re: Flash Drives

Sometimes, the issue is your card reader, the cord for the reader, or the USB port itself.

Re: Flash Drives

The actual port on my laptop got tired real quickly.

I've bent the rectangle on the flash drive slightly to create more pressure on the contacts. I've also used a short usb cable.

But best of all, I plugged the last thumb drive into a brand new laptop, and it read 100%.

Re: Flash Drives

Well I did that too. Squeezing the rectangle on the thumb for better friction.

The new one is found right away in all of my devices so it can't be a reader or device

Re: Flash Drives

On reflection, I did fix a thumb drive for the gal that worked at the Lapeer Building Dept. The places where the contacts soldered onto the circuit board had developed a couple of fractures. So I flowed some new solder on and she was good again.

Re: Flash Drives

You can try a shop. The one that repaired my iphone does micro soldering.

Guys with that talent are the exception, but they are out there.

Re: Flash Drives

#1 problem is junk gets jammed in them. First try would be gently blow it out, next is use electronic cleaner spray.

If it's actually loose plugged in, go straight for the bending.
