Anthem Insurance Hacked

Big issue here. Anthem's system have been hacked, leaking customer data for over 80 Million clients. This is one of the largest breeches to date and some of the most vital information has been leaked. Any current or past Anthem customers better keep an eye on their credit reports. I got the email first thing this morning.

Re: Anthem Insurance Hacked

As a temporary measure there are some actions that can be taken. For a fee you can have each of the major credit bureaus place a freeze on your credit profiles. That means nothing can access them without you first lifting the freeze. In Virginia, where I'm at, it would cost me $30 total to do this and it's free to lift the freeze temporarily. This adds some extra hassle when you are actually trying to get credit for something, but it may be worth it.

The second approach, and the one I opted for at the moment, it to put a free 90 day fraud alert on you credit profiles. You can sign up for this at the following site and it will be forwarded to the other two credit bureaus.

https://www.alerts.equifax.com/AutoF...fraudAlert.jsp

It's hard to tell what the fallout on this one will be. This morning there is some information pointing toward this being another Chinese attack.

Anthem is a pretty big player on obamacare, so they're protected...even as they are getting class action lawsuits against them. I think no matter what, they're guaranteed not to lose any money and lawsuits....go through 'the courts.'

Re: Anthem Insurance Hacked

What's ironic is these companies are NOT required to have any type of data encryption in place for customer data...

Re: Anthem Insurance Hacked

Most companies carry a cyber insurance policy for this type of issue, helps mitigate the losses.

Companies have no problem spending millions to clean up after a data breach but try getting a couple hundred thousand out of them to be proactive and it's like talking to a pile of bricks

Re: Anthem Insurance Hacked

Some new info. A phishing email is now going around trying to convince you that they are offering identity protection services.
