128gb USB Flash Drive -$29.00

I purchased this yesterday at office max, $60.00 off the regular $89.00 price tag...

That's a lot of space for $29.00.....

For anyone interested:
http://www.officedepot.com/a/product...B-Flash-Drive/

The store has it on sale for $49.00 , you have to print out the link I posted and bring it to either Office Max or Office Depot.

Yeah, but at that price, what could go wrong.

And what happens to your fancy-dancy RAID system when your house burns down?

Yes, RAID is not a backup! It is redundancy, only good for letting you keep working in case of a failure.

OK. RAID1 + auto backup to external drive in fire safe.

And fire safes only keep out fires. They don't keep out heat. So put your raid in a fire safe, your house burns, and you have nothing more than a pile of melted electronics.

It's really quite simple. If your data doesn't exist in at least three separate, distinct locations, you run the risk of losing it.

I rotate between four 2tb backups, three of which are in my (yes, fire-) safe, a 5th drive next door at a neighbor, and a sixth in a location 827 miles away. One of the four drives that are in & out of the safe is used for 2 months, updated daily. Then swapped out with one of the three in the safe.

The drive next door is updated monthly. The one 827 miles away is updated semi-annually. The last one is not a back-up per-se, just all my important files and directories copied. This is so it can be utilized by any computer and not one with the back-up software used in my normal back-up routine.

I know this sounds complicated, but it really isn't. And 99% of it is done automatically, in the background, with no effort on my part. It's just a matter of swapping 2 or 3 drives every two months.

It's true, all the data experts always talk about having off-site backup storage.

Well, that wouldn't be the case if you had a proper dog house a good distance away from your house, and perhaps you could even store a backup drive under the dogs pillow bed...

Wife doesn't like animals in the house. She's also allergic to them. Not paying extra money for a hypo allergenic dog. And don't really want the extra expense anyway. When the kids are older if they want a dog I guess we might talk.
