Worse is trying to explain your schedule to clients when you are months deep.

Re: Schedule

I'm already burned out. Don't want to make it worse. Going on vacation this week, haven't done that in over 5 years.

Re: Schedule

That's what I've said for a long time now. I don't want a vacation, I need one. But it's going to screw with my schedule. But what's new with that.

A schedule is like a plan. And I've never wrote out a plan that has worked step by step because life inserts itself all the time.

Use to go once a year. Come hell or high water. I even wrote it into a contract one year because it might of interfered with me completing it on schedule (it didn't). But they were planned and money was deposited and I was going on my vacation.

Then they sold the cottage we rented and our date was no longer available. The next year Hurricane Sandy ravaged the area and there was nothing to vacation at. The year after it was still pretty bad and at that point we didn't plan a vacation and the momentum was lost and I hadn't had a vacation since.

Every couple of years. I did a whole house of (making) trim, cabinets, wainscoting, kitchen and other stuff and then jumped into another whole house build and there's been no rest for the weary. It's also been the same ole same with no really exciting projects. But that gets worse over time because the more you do, the less exciting projects exist.

You know, a set of Walnut Wagon Wheels, or a Re-purposing a piano or something odd to get the creative juices flowing. It's been a while.

That must have been what I was thinking about- you talking about going on vacation.

Re: Schedule

I know a successful contractor that takes off his entire summers and head to the beach..every year. He's established and not young, either. He has a high-end, "speed" niche for executive home sales on the north side of DC, and uses the summer sales lull to his advantage.

There is a contractor from New York who comes here every winter to play golf and fish, 4 months.

I do the 3-4 day weekend once month and a couple of bigger trips now. I like the 3-4 day better myself
